Pros: Varied Terrain, Great Ski School, Good Snowmaking Cons: Not Much Off Slope Activity
Belleayre Mountain is one of those places that no one ever seems to have heard of, even though it is close to New York City and Albany – it’s hidden in the shadow of the Catskills’ other ski areas. If you have skied there thoug, then ...

Pros: Bumps, bumps, and more bumps! Cons: sloooooooooooow lifts
Me and my buddy happened to pick up free lift tickets to Belleayre at our local ski expo this fall. Along comes Martin Luther King Weekend and we were psyched to go skiing, but not psyched to pay weekend rates. So we decided to cash-in our free passes...

Pros: Great variety. Warm, homey place. Cons: Needs additional challenging trails
For an all-around ski center, Belleayre takes the cake. To begin with, it has what I consider to be the very best beginner area in the East. This has long gentle slopes, served by two double chair lifts, for variety even for the less skilled....

Pros: Great beginner area, close to NYC, no crowds, variety of trails, moguls. Cons: Management, small lodges, lack of restaurants, hotels, activities.
Overall, Belleayre is a great mountain that is close to NYC. Although not much is ever heard about it, it seems to be the best mountain in the catskills in terms of terrain. It is about a 2.5 hour drive from the heart of NYC, but it never has any crowds, ...

Pros: NO CROWDS, Great Service, Great Skiing Cons: Expensive food and you might have to hike to a few trails
Belleayre Mountain is a hidden jewel. It may not be the biggest or most challenging trails in the Catskills but it has it own charm. The lifts are slow, the facilities are old and you have to hike just about every where to get to a slope. These may ...

Pros: Great Ski School and lots of slopes!!! Cons: Slightly steep lift slope
I learned to ski here and keep coming back. There are so many trails (35)so you don't get bored of going down the same ones like at other resorts. Aside from the amount of slopes I must make it point that the ski school is superb. The instructors are...

Pros: No crowds, cheap, nice for beginners Cons: SLOOWW lifts, bad layout causes for a lot of hiking, not very challenging, small lodge
As a snowboarder, one trip to Belleayre was enough for me.
This review will just be an extended pros/cons list.
Pros:
Nice scenery after a snowfall
Almost no crowds (practically empty slopes, short lift lines)
Close to NYC...

Pros: Lack of crowds, good day care, excellent ski/snowboard school, friendly staff, snowmaking Cons: Slow lifts (except Superchief)
Belleayre Mountain is probably the best large mountain less than 2 hours from northern NJ. They have 39 trails, 5 chairlifts and a few surface lifts. They installed a detachable high speed quad (Supercheif) that opened for the 2006-2007 season, ...

Pros: Large, not crowded, great trails Cons: lengthy trip from Long Island or Manhattan
Belleayre is one of the nicest ski resorts I've ever been to. It is not crowded, remote, and a great place to ski. It has an upper and a lower mountain that are connected by a network of lifts. The lower is for beginners and the upper is the more...

What a mountain should be
by antipode12 ,Feb 24 '05
Pros: Not crowded, affordable, nice people, great leisure or learning conditions Cons: Too easy? slow lifts
I simply agree with everything the other reviews of Belleayre say. It's a terrific place.
I learned to snowboard (already a skier) at Belleayre (no lessons, so I have no comment on their ski school) and found the crowds minimal, the prices right, and the conditions were great for the East, that is, perfect to learn on: not too powdery, and not too icy. Also, the green trails (at other mountains: notoriously crowded, poorly laid out, and dangerously filled with out of control newbies like myself) were clear and calm.
One drawback I might have for the mountain (let me emphasize , it's a small drawback) is that you can master it very quickly. I have gone twice in two months, now, and will probably have gone through all of the trails by the next time. Blue trails here are like greens elsewhere.
Further, the lifts are a bit slow and unreliable. OK, very slow. So don't dilly dally before getting back on line.
