Pros: Good mix of terrain for experienced skiiers Cons: Somewhat out-dated, no close lodging, lacks amenities
Blue Knob ski area in central Pennsylvania calls itself the "skiier's mountain." Over the last few years it has succeeded in developing a loyal following in the mid-atlantic states among some of the more die-hard skiiers. Seems like you can't...

Pros: Price, Practice Cons: Slow lifts, no (real) dining
Go to Blue Knob if (choose one):
1. You like to ski
2. You like to ski
3. You like to ski
Blue Knob is to skiing what a driving range is to golf. It's not for people who want Vail Village or Park City or "downtown"...

Pros: Not many other than decent slopes Cons: Extremely poor management
I am very concerned with the future of Blue knob. The management and owners are killing the best mountain in PA. Their staff is very poorly trained and not very helpful. Here is a list of problems found over the holiday weekend alone.
1. Only one...

Pros: Short lines for the lift Cons: Not a nice lodge
This has to be one of the most challenging resort on the east coast. It used to be a state park but was converted in to ski slopes a long time ago. It has one of the highest elevations of the surrounding mountains. It always has snow in the winter...

Pros: Not many people there. Cons: Horrible snowmaking, icy, and always cold.
Almost every Friday I make a trip to Blue Knob with my ski club. It is definitely not the greatest ski resort in Pennsylvania. The icy and cold conditions are like that every time you are there. The snowmaking at Blue Knob is so horrible that unless they...

Pros: very low lift ticket prices that range from 15 to 20 dollars Cons: Horrible conditions and some of the worst snow-makers that I have ever seen
If you have ever been skiing before, than you know what it feels like to fall, tumble, wipe out and totally embarrass your self. Usually , when you fall, it is because of an ice patch,a snow maker blowing in your face, or something logical that would...

Pros: Highest mountain in PA Cons: Not aggressive in snow making, not a great lodge, few safety features
I read the advertising about this being the highest mountain in Pennsylvania but I have to say it was a big disappointment. Most of the other slopes in PA have nearly 100% of their trails open but Blue Knob had less than half. The slopes were not well...

Pros: Good PA skiing Cons: Crowds on weekends.
Blue Knob is a great place to ski if you're looking for a good quality slope in PA. It has a good atmosphere, good prices and nice people. Skiers and boarders of all varietys can ski there. For the beginners out there Mambo provides you with a nice,...

Pros: price, terrain (for a PA slope), not crowded Cons: nonexistent snow, small
It is one of the cheapest resorts out there...and you get what you pay for. The lifts are horrible.
There's never any snow, and when there is whiteness on the ground, it's usually ice. They should really change their slogan to "Would you...

Pros: Get to any slope from top of mountain Cons: Ice - Cold - Poor Lodge
I have been to this ski resort many times but never by choice. The only times I have gone is with a group and would never even think about going by myself. Many things combine for a terrible experience like awful snow making, the lodge is at the top of...

Pros: Cheap, challenging slopes, not busy Cons: Terrible conditions, rude employees, bad ski lodge
I learned how to ski when i was 12 years old at blue knob with my schools ski program. Because this was my first time skiing i thought the harsh weather conditions and poorly groomed slopes were normal.I continued skiing at blue knob for another 2 years...

Pros: Have slopes for all levels of skiers Cons: They need more slopes for the "Advanced Skiers"
I have been to Blue Knob more than twenty times and i think that all except a few are fairly easy. It is a good place to learn to ski but after you ski there for so long you need more of a challenge which is hard to find if you know what your...

Mad River Glen of PA
by jaypeakpow ,Dec 01 '03
Pros: Best terrian in PA Cons: Snowmaking, lodge on top
All claims are justified, good and bad. I skied here for years when I was at IUP and love the place. The mountain is not really for beginners or those who think they're better than they are (goto 7 Springs or Hidden Valley-they suck). One day in the mid-90's they shut the place down because 2 people bit off more than they could chew and got life-flighted outta there.
If your like VT style glade skiing plus steep, bumpy stuff there is no better place in PA, bar none. Just make sure the snow is good-itsa blast. If not, yes, like MRG they have little snowmaking and rely heavily on natural snowfall. But unlike MRG that gets 2+ times as much snow the 100" avg. is only great for a couple weeks a year and struggles most of the season - watch the weather channel.
