Pros: Huge snowfalls, amazing variety of terrain, and lift ticket prices that can't be beat! Cons: What a shame EVERY ski resort isn't as good
I love skiing more than just about any other winter activity, and no winter is complete to me without at least one great ski trip. I was just beginning to think that winter would pass me by without a ski trip this year when I finally managed to...

Pros: Varied terrain, atmosphere, snow, not crowded, skischool, accessibility, views, value. Cons: Barless lifts scare beginners, apres-ski activities.
Alta has been around a while, but it still is one of the best. It is one of the most well-rounded ski resorts out there. While it might not be fancy or modern, it has an enjoyable atmosphere that you must experience. It is very low-key and easy to manage ...

Pros: Great snow, lots of terrain types, good parking, price Cons: No snowboarding allowed, limited services
Prime Spot For Serious Skiers
Alta is a great ski resort located at one of the highest elevations in the Salt Lake City area. Due to this elevation, it gets around 500 inches average snowfall each year! That pretty much guarantees...

Pros: Terrain, Snowfall Cons: Lifts (and Lines)
Alta serves one purpose better than any other resort in Utah... if you can ski it all, you can ski it all anywhere...
If you miss any other of Utah's resorts, you could justify your oversite with a "but I got to ski ..." miss skiing...

Pros: Great mogul skiing all the time, incredible powder Cons: Harder to get to than Park City or Deer Valley on a snow day.
Alta ski area is located at the top of little cottonwood canyon in the mountains above Salt Lake City, Utah. It is by far my favorite place to ski in this wide world (neighboring Snowbird is a very close second).
I've been skiing Alta...

Pros: I'll never know Cons: no snowboarding allowed.
I've heard that Alta is a fantastic place to ski. Unfortunately, I'll never know because they DON'T ALLOW SNOWBOARDING!Get real! Get with the times! How can a business ignore, errrr... discriminate against snowboarders in this day and age? ...

Pros: cheap, excellent skiing Cons: slow lifts
I just moved to SLC from NJ and so, like everyone else around here, I'm learning to ski. Many of my new friends are locals and expert skiers and so they ski Alta and Snowbird. Other reviewers have covered that topic (expert skiing). Some say Alta is...

Pros: Great skiing, Dirt Cheap Cons: Snowboarding friends have to go elsewhere
Some of the best skiing I ever had was at Alta. This is definitely a skiers' mountain. I spent a week in Utah and visited a number of different resorts, all of which were great, but Alta definitely had the best skiing.
PROS:
Alta...

Pros: Good for any skill level Cons: No high speed lifts
Alta Ski Resort is a convenient 35-45 minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City and has the absolute best facilities for a skier in the state of Utah.
Personally, I have been snowboarding before, but I had never skied before in my life before...

Pros: great snow, great terrain, great price, smaller crowds Cons: resort is not designed for snowboarding
I have been snowboarding since 1989. I had never even seen it before I tried it, but I was hooked after my first miserable day on the bunny slope at Snowbird. I've never wanted to ski again. I have spent most of my boarding days living in Utah and...

Pros: Good snow, Good terrain, great overall skiing Cons: no snowboards (Con for some only)
Alta Ski Resort is skier's heaven. With 500+ inches of fresh snow per year, you are guaranteed to love it. The slopes are hard, the snow is amazing, and there is always a spot where nobody is around.
Alta is one of the first Ski resorts in the US....

Pros: great terrain and the best snow on earth Cons: lines are entirely too long to be enjoyable
I'm from Utah, so I've done a lot of skiing, and I really like good, hard terrain with great snow, which is why I hate to do this: I really don't like skiing at Alta for one reason: the lift lines are entirely too long. This is sad because the terrain...

Pros: Great Snow, no snow boarders! Cons: Too many people know about it!
My love affair with Alta began in 1983 when, just out of college, my travels took me to Salt Lake City. A ski racer by trade, I was confident that I would be able to handle just about anything Alta had to offer but man was I wrong! Since 1983, I...

Pros: heaps of powder, down to earth cool vibe, amazing terrain Cons: if your reading this- your not there.
Alta
No matter where you come from, you'll soon feel like an Alta local. The fact you choose such a laid back, bare-bones, meat and potatoes mountain and architecturally-challenged hangout over some sissy, manicured resort- automatically...

Pros: Beautiful mountains, variety of terrain Cons: Cost of airfare to get there
This year will mark my third trip in as many years to Alta. Nestled in Little Cottonwood Canyon approximately 45 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, Alta is a skier's paradise. The lift lines are short, the snow is perfect and I have yet...
