Crime Rates High on Broadway

by TomQPublic , Mar 17 '01
Pros: Intimate venue, inexpensive entertainment, intriguing plot
Cons: Unnecessarily confusing at times
"Perfect Crime" is an off-Broadway show which is actually on Broadway and 47th Street, at the Duffy Theatre. This small, intimate venue is perfect for this one-set murder mystery. The stage is on the same level as the audience; one feels as if he is...

by goldilox , Mar 23 '01
Pros: great acting, stimulating plot
Cons: shoddy theater, plot confusion
Who can turn down a good whodunit? Not me! I had mystery and suspense in mind when planning my vacation to New York City. I saw the title "Perfect Crime" and knew I had to put it on my list of shows to see. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but when...

Perfect Crime - What A Terrible Production - It Sucks!

by mf66 , Jan 10 '07
Pros: It was finally over.
Cons: Inaudible line delivery. Mailed-in performances. Poor accents. Over-dubbed voice recordings of previous actors.
I was delighted to find a place online to leave a stage review about Perfect Crime, as my intent to alert Broadway theater patrons to Perfect Crime's poor production quality may help balance the crime they impose upon their public. In addition, the ...

A Perfect Waste of Time

by jillwrites , Nov 02 '07
Pros: Diet Raspberry Snapple tea in the lobby - I can't get enough of that!
Cons: Actors, plot, subplots, token characters, costumes, props, accents
When a person goes watches a show - be in TV, a movie, or a play, he/she suspends his/her disbelief. Unfortunately, in this play that is just impossible. I did, however, have an issue with the play being performed. Catherine Russell has been ...

Easily The Worst Play I Have EVER seen!!!

by fitzworld , Apr 03 '09
Pros: It finally ended!!!
Cons: Catherine Russell is possibly the worst actress I have EVER seen on a professional stage!!
This play is such a complete and utter mess I barely have the energy to put my pain into words. We got tickets through TDF so only had to pay $29 each, but it still hurts to throw good money down the drain!! I honestly can’t think of one ...

Definitely not perfect...

by caconti Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 05 '00
Pros: One of the few Broadway mysteries
Cons: A confusing pile of mush
A perfect crime is the tale of a female psychiatrist accused of killing her adulterous husband. When the detective shows up to investigate, he is confronted by his attraction to the woman and his suspicion of her.

The play is almost...

Nothing is Perfect, but This Isn't too Bad

by habla , Apr 18 '00
Pros: Ms. Russell is energetic and believable
Cons: Play changes course midway through second act
You have the time, the money and the desire to see a play. You also have had it with the long line at Duffy Square to get the two for one tickets to your favorite show. Don't despair. Right across the street from the long lines of Duffy Square is a...

Perfectly Criminal - Go Watch Law & Order

by notaquibbler , Mar 13 '08
Pros: Absolutely none.
Cons: Waste of money. Bad if first time in NY.
I have never been so disappointed by a theater production. Watching high-schoolers would have been far more rewarding. I felt sorry for the male actors in this. The lead, Catherine Russell , acted as if she were having some kind of psychotic breakdown, ...

DO NOT WASTE YOU MONEY OR YOUR TIME SEEING THIS

by coolcat12345 , Aug 28 '07
Pros: We had a lot of fun taking about how bad it was afterwards
Cons: too many to list
This play was awful. We saw it because it was cheaper then seeing a play on Broadway and we figured that if it had lasted for so long it couldn't be that bad right? wrong! I was expecting something thrilling keeping me on the edge of my seat little by ...

Perfect Crime..They stole our money

by eightofus , Feb 17 '04
Pros: Well lit exit signs for a fast escape.
Cons: My wife wouldn't let me escape her tight grip (thanks Gigi)
On a business trip to NYC for the first time I gave in to my wifes wishes when she said she wanted to see a "mystery show" instead of one of the many musicals and better known shows going on around town. Of course being the perfect gentleman (and weaker ...

Perfect way to unload....

by armandocvs , Feb 08 '09
Pros: good way for you to relieve constipation
Cons: if you do not wear rubber pants, you are in trouble!
On a recent trip to New York we checked out what plays were being offered at reduced ticket prices.  Someone was passing out info and was "nice" enough to give us a rundown of the plays that had not sold out.  Well my friends, wife and I were ...

Not impressed
by margrethe ,Oct 26 '05
Pros: The lead actress carries the play.
Cons: unfathomable plot; mediocre actors; dull set; ridiculous script

Four of us saw this play two evenings ago. We thought it was one of the worst plays we have ever seen, and we have all gone to lots of theater. [Two of us in fact are theater performers.] When it was over, we [as well as everyone around us] did not have a clue as to what had happened. Please keep in mind that we are all college graduates and English majors, and we did try to follow the dialog.
We also thought that it was dated, with wooden acting by some of the performers, some preposterous scenes, and an amateurish set. How it can have run since 1987 is beyond me.Guns appeared regularly on stage as props in the obscure plot. After the play ended, I heard a woman say, "They should have passed the guns out to the audience."

The perfect crime ...pays
by ohogain ,Jul 10 '06
Pros: The actors know their lines...this play will finish on time...even ahead of time.
Cons: This was my once in a life time worst ever play.
It is a perfect crime, the perpetrators are a group of actors, the victims, unsuspecting theatre goers and the crime is that no-one has shouted stop. But how has it gone on so long ? In a city like New York with a million new visitors every week, there will always be at least 30 souls on any average night who will sign up for any Broadway play,(I was one of those) at 40 dollars a head that's 1,200 a night, 8,400 dollars a week and adds to some eight and a half million dollars over twenty years of the play !! daylight robbery at night on Broadway and nice work if you can get it.

In summary, this play is complex and meandering, the actors are so familiar with those lines that they rattle them off. I reckon that the play running time be shortening each night by about a minute.

The irritants are the use of real gunpowder, it does ensure the audience are awoken at least on four occasions, the other irritant is the constant radio background noise and a TV broadcast within the play..my advice...stay home.
