I recently rented a vehicle at Avis rental center at West Palm Beach, Florida for the period of April 16 to 23, 2005. What an awful experience. First of all we reserved a mid size car only to assigned a huge eight cylinder full size boat. We had to wait ...
Pros: cheap prices and convenient pick up Cons: tries to charge us for bogus damages,
unprofessional conduct at service counter
On Sunday July 21 I returned the Avis car to the Schipol airport (Amsterdam) where we originally rented the car. The garage attendant noticed a barely detectable hairline scratch on the (plastic or fiberglass) rear bumper of the Fiat Punto. It was...
Pros: good cars Cons: spurious credit card charges
In June 2000 I rented a car from Avis in Munich Germany for three days. I chose Avis based on the recommendation of my credit card (USAA) and its competitive price. I returned the car to the airport in good condition, and the car was inspected while I...
Pros: cars are okay Cons: customer service people have attitude problems
I live in Berkeley, where parking takes 30+ minutes to find, so my friend and I rent cars to go to places sometimes. I have two experiences with Avis' customer service. One about a month ago and the second was yesterday. A month ago, my friend and ...
Pros: Friendliness of the staff, variety of cars, availability Cons: price, mileage, no sports or convertables
I must say this first. When it comes to renting cars I must be an expert. I used to rent cars for "fun". I have rented cars from Avis, Dollar Rent a Car, Hertz, Enterprize and a dealer. I liked everyone of these places for a different...
Quality control at AVIS is pretty much non existent. I rent regularly, and switch between AVIS and HERTZ based on convenience of the particular location. However, I'm able to say that the staff of AVIS is a notch BELOW hertz staff. And that is saying...
Pros: The best thing about this Avbis hire is when it ended... Cons: Rude, careless, lacking in communication, over pricing, time wasting,

Pros: no pros Cons: Poor customer service, fraudulent charges, never again, Lying condoned by staff

Pros: I suppose they would have been cheaper than somewhere else. But so not worth it. Cons: Apathetic customer service at the desk...very unhelpful...and their policies themselves are terrible!!
Never EVER will I even think about renting from Avis again. I had reserved an economy car for my trip to San Diego, they were the cheapest on orbitz. When I get there, first they say, well we don't have any economby cars that you RESERVED, we can give ...
Pros: Selection Cons: Customer service, availability of infant car seats
So last month, I traveled to Virginia for a business trip and brought my 4 month old daughter with me so that my dad could see her and I decided to rent with Avis specifically because they offered infant car seats. Typically I rent with Enterprise ...
Pros: willing to make a reservation for you Cons: neglect to tell you that the reservation doesn't actually include a car
Maybe I assume that people are more sophisticated than they generally are, but when I called Avis, and made a reservation, I failed to specify that I wanted the kind of reservation where I actually get a car. As a result, when I went to the lot to claim my "reserved" vehicle, they told me they didn't have any cars. My advice to anyone wanting to rent a car from Avis: make sure that when you make a reservation, you indicate that it's the kind where they give you a car, not the kind where you reserve the right not to receive one.
The best - drive in comfort and confidence that you're taken care of by brionvox ,Jan 19 '07
Pros: Great fast service, reliable cars, helps me enjoy my trips without hassle, reasonable prices Cons: None
I would do a commercial for Avis. Every time I have rented (over 25), the cars have been great, the service superb. Only once did I have a flat tire - between major cities. They offered to drive and meet me to change it themselves, or I could change and get a new car at the next location about 40 miles ahead, which I did. When I arrived at the small location, the car was clean, gassed and I drove away in a few minutes. I will never rent from another agency. I am now a preferred customer and the car is running with a newspaper in the seat and ready to go by the time the airport shuttle drops me off.
Pros: Fast, efficient check out/check inGreat cars - new & very cleanVery accessible to airports Cons: None
I spent a lot of time reading various reviews on epinion about car rental company pros/cons. Finally, I decided to go with Avis. First time was in Hartford in Fall 2007 and second time was Portland, Oregon in June 2008. After reading many of the reviews, I was certainly expecting something to go wrong - especially that I would be billed at a later date for damage to the car I did not incur. In fact, I was a bit paranoid about any scratches or dents that I was sure I didn't cause but was worried I would get charged for. To summarize, both rental experiences were great and totally without incident. The cars were excellent, the service at both check-in & check-out was great and we didn't have to wait long, the personnel was very friendly and when I said I didn't need any insurance, they did not hassle me as I was expecting. I will probably always use Avis for my car rental needs.
Excellent at College Park MD by sthom3521 ,Apr 20 '08
Pros: Convenience Cons: Nada
Hey, you can get an excellent price with Avis using Orbitz or Travelocity. I have nothing but good things to say here. They were very efficient, fast, and friendly. The counter was right in the Holiday Inn hotel in College Park, MD. They let me pick up there and return to Reagan airport without a whimper. Nice Impala got good mileage for its size.
I'm going to Hertz the next time by matt_in_sfo ,Jun 18 '07
Pros: Convenient location, but all the other rental companies have the same thing Cons: Didn't get the type of car I reserved
So, I compared prices for a one-day rental between Hertz and Avis. Avis charged about $20 less, so I went with them. Big mistake. I rented from a downtown location in San Francisco. The place was total chaos, with garage guys coming in and out and saying they couldn't find cars. I reserved a compact car, but when I got there, they didn't have anything smaller than an enormous SUV. Well, you say, it's a much bigger car for the same rate, correct? True, but the SUV got something like five miles to the gallon.
Whenever I've rented with Hertz, they've given me either exactly the car I reserved, or something a little better but within the same fuel economy class. At Avis, I ordered a compact and they gave me a monster SUV that guzzled a small fortune in gas, costing me much more than if I had just gone to Hertz in the first place and paid the marginally higher rental rate.
Another Avis horror story from Germany by yardena ,Jan 14 '08
Pros: Car was as advertised. Cons: Spurious charges for an accident we didn't have.
Returned a car to the Frankfurt Airport lot in pristine condition in early November; a week later noticed the bill was about $1K higher than the receipt. Called Avis and was told that we'd been charged for accident damage.
Disputed the charge with both Avis and credit card. Nearly two months later, Avis contacts us saying they've received photo documentation of the damage from their German operation, and as a result "our hands are tied." How this proves we were responsible is a mystery to me, but my only recourse now is through the credit card. Meanwhile, I've cancelled my Wizard card and am spreading the word. These guys make up charges. Don't patronize them.
AVIS IN ATLANTA NEEDS HELP by keheusser ,Jan 14 '08
Pros: prices were correct as advertised, nice car seat provided for my child Cons: Needed more employees, or something. Maybe increased staff at lunchtime
Last April I flew to Atlanta on business. As I have family in the area, I flew in a few days early with my three year old daughter. I had to wait in line for, no exaggeration, 45 minutes, to finally get the car. Fate was smiling on the other renters and myself that day, as my child did not have any kind of meltdown. Her mother was ready to lose it though. Upon return of the car, the driver of the shuttle did not offer to help us, a very obviously pregnant woman and her toddler, with any of our bags/stroller.
AVIS rental in Mexico - HORRIBLE!!! by mosaic1 ,Jan 15 '08
Pros: pretty ads Cons: useless reservation service, bad cars, clueless customer service staff
We had a confirmed reservation at Avis in Sun Palace, Cancun. When I came to pick up the car, there were no car available. I refused to leave, so after 2.5 hours someone brought an old, smelly, tiny clunker from the airport with missing body parts, dirty and with 50K on it. Having no choice, I took it but couldn't go anywhere since it was shaking like crazy when over 60 KPH. I returned it the next morning and went over to Hertz, getting a nice, clean and new car.
You may think that AVIS provides service for the extra they charge over others. Not so. When I called their Customer Service when returning, I was told they have nothing to do with Avis Mexico and cannot check into it. I asked why then they reserve, confirm and guarantee on their behalf, no straight answer was given. They promised a $50 voucher for rentals in the US only.
AVIS may be a reputable agency for North America, but I wouldn't rent from them overseas or Mexico. Their premium prices that we pay expecting good service is not justifiable.
I had a horrible experience with Avis. I rented a vehicle and got some surprises at check out time. I told them they should disclose all costs at the time of sale and asked them to remove the fees that were not disclosed. They refused. Angered, I asked for a manager. He told me "I shouldn't talk to his employees like that," and basically ignored my request. I told him again they should disclose all costs prior to the rental. He ignored this again and told me he didn't like my town of voice. After going ballistic, he suggested that I not use Avis again. Thanks for the advice, pal. You can bet I won't.
Be careful when renting from Avis by webuk ,Aug 01 '08
Pros: Car clean and good condition Cons: Cheat to get the business. Cheat you on fuel too so fill up.
Take great care when booking and check every detail.
I phoned AVIS UK to book car for Prague Airport, and explained we needed large estate car (example Renault Laguna Grandtour) agreed price, pre-paid but failed to re-check after booking for the car group when the confirmation came through.
Turns out when we get to Prague that a smaller car has been booked and there's nothing we can do about it except try to squeeze all our party and luggage into it.
Now home having had to pay a further 164 Euro on drop off on fuel (half a tank 102 euro). I am absolutely certain that to get the business they overstated the car then input a smaller one. Never again AVIS!
Pros: Ease of renting Cons: Don't mess up!! Or there will be $$$$!
Avis is completely indifferent to the customer's business, as I have recently found! After I scraped a Toyota Prius ("weird" steering), I was honest and forthcoming about paying for the damage. They REALLY stuck it to me, charging me for vague things like "administrative" fees ($100.00), and, I had to pay for the 5 days it was in THE SHOP, as if I was renting it at the same time!! An extra 5 days rental charged, in addition to all kinds of other "extras," for a total of $1,365.00! When I asked for a little mercy, as a good customer, they did nothing, NO courtesy exemption whatsoever, not even a coupon for next time! I am furious for being taken advantage of, and I WILL NOT USE AVIS AGAIN!! Mar 31 '08
1:25 pm PDT
Pros: The car was clean. Cons: They're thieves and their Customer Care is a joke.
I hired an AVIS car for two weeks for a trip in Spain and I took out damage waiver insurance. I paid nearly three times more than a friend who hired from Hertz for the same period. I was hit from behind waiting at a roundabout whilst there by a woman who admitted complete liability in writing on the forms we completed. Imagine my surprise when I got home to find I had been charged nearly £500 for damage! My multiple emails to AVIS customer care were COMPLETELY IGNORED. My phone calls elicited the response: "We charge you until the 3rd party pays us. It usually takes 30 days but it takes as long as it takes." The woman on the customer care phone actually used the words "It's not our problem." to me, telling me I had signed up to the small print.
Pros: Easy to find
Good world wide online reservation system Cons: As many scams as a good used car salesperson
We had reserved a car with Avis for a trip to Cape Town (south Africa). We had booked a car air conditioning and automatic. The web site said Toyota corolla or similar.
When we arrived they had our paperwork ready and after taking an imprint of my credit card the rental agent escorted us to a VW Golf which had neither AC or automatic. The agent explained that no other cars were available. Unfortanetly we were in a hurry and decided to take it - first mistake.
So ended up renting a car of lesser value than what we had booked. The price was the same however.
No problems with the car itself or the return. However, when we returned to the US I discovered my credit card had been charged approx. $US150.00 more than the what was on my receipt. I did manage to fix this problem with them.
Other travellers to South Africa have reported similar scams. Most were given cars of less value than what they reserved but at the same price. Those who argued often got the better car. So be prepared to argue and double check all rental agreements and credit card statements.
AVIS Car Rental - Sneaky Upcharging by l8blumr ,Jul 27 '09
Pros: There is nothing positive I can think of to say about this company. Cons: I would not recommend this company to anyone because of their DECEPTIVE business practices.
I sent an employee on a business trip, with the rental car prepaid online. When he arrived, Avis SNEAKILY upgraded his car without telling him and without company authorization. He didn't even KNOW he had been upgraded until the charge on the company credit card! They tried to upcharge him on everything but he said no, not realizing they had already upcharged him on the car.
Be careful when renting from this company. Know what car you are supposed to get and watch for upcharging!
AVIS Europe - so far removed from reality by musimusi ,Mar 16 '06
Pros: Familiar name Cons: Everything else
I will simply quote the reply I received from AVIS customer service to my inquiry as to why they charged me $200 for a 1-day rental of a mid-size car in Germany (mind you, that mid-size would be sub-compact in the US). I admit I made a big mistake by not filling the gas tank upon return, but I figured that not even in Germany 7 gallons of gas can be that expensive.
Here it is:
Re: 265614532
Dear Mr. Ifrim:
Thank you for contacting us through the Avis website.
I apologize for the delay.
Your guaranteed rate of 87.01 EUR was applied. The additional charge is for
the refueling (78.37 EUR), which is subject to the local tax and surcharge.
We apologize for the misunderstanding.
Thank you for giving me an opportunity to clarify this matter.
I suggest AVIS to try a new promotion, it may work wonders for their bottom line: free car rental as long as you bring it back with the tank dry.
I just used Avis for the first time in 5 years and their customer service has improved quite a bit. The two customer representatives I encountered were some of the nicest people I've met in the service industry. The lady at the return location even came from behind the counter to hand me the receipt. Now that's certainly above and beyond !
Pros: Clean cars. Wide spread availability. Cons: Reward system quirky. Minor issues with some employees.
Avis has plenty of cars and good coverage for travellers.
They have a points program, but don't take points from airlines or anywhere else to help you reduce rates.
Most of the employees in most locations have been helpful, efficient and polite. One woman at the MRY airport was self involved, impatient, etc. The other emp at MRY was great.
In OMA I was told they were out of my preferred car size, and I had to pay for the upgrade. They were polite about it though I felt a little rushed trying to decide on a vehicle type which I had no experience with. (I need alot of legroom).
Cars have always been clean and new.
Preferred/reward system is sort of wierd. There's a wizard number, and a worldwide discount number. You have to sign up for one, then the other, and tie them together. Sort of a pain.
Avis Malaga Spain Insurance Fraud by tla2001 ,Feb 07 '07
Pros: Nice Alfa Romeo
Cons: Agent who bamboozled me on the insurance which costs more than the car rental
Rented a car from Avis Agency @ Malaga Spain Rail Station. Told the agent twice that I did not want insurance. Agent never went through contract or gave me a copy in English. Something about the whole rental experience seemed shady. After leaving Malaga found agent had charged insurance. Tried to straighten out over the phone in Spain with no luck. I've tried to straighten it out with Avis in the US with the same result. It appears I will have to dispute charge with my credit card company and if that is unsuccessful, I will retain consul to fight the charge.
Moral of the story:
Insist on contract in English
Insist agent goes through all charges with you
Don't rent car after traveling for 20+ hours
AVIS has new site ft myers--no port taxes by shuggs20 ,Aug 23 '07
Pros: same cars lower price, drop off at airport ,no extra charge open on sundays Cons: cab from airport. 30 dollars to save 100's
i am hoping this message gets to every traveler to SW FL. the new site is at the Edison mall inside sears auto shop. prices are 20% cheaper here than at the airport. store code E6D!! try it out you will be impressed. rent from them and drop of at airport no extra charges!! phone #239-275-0853
hope i helped save money.
Very unpleasant experience.
At the point of service in France the price increased from an initial quote of $679.48 to $1,206.50.
Had to take the car an leave. At this point had no other choice.
When came back to the US and tried to resolve it with Avis got no luck. They are pointing towards Avis France. Apparently when you make a reservation no one mentions that subdivision.
The service itself was lousy. I was forced to make a roundtrip to the hotel to get a passport that typically is not required to get a car. Driver license, a copy of reservation and a credit card was not enough ...
Overcharged in Bulgaria! by benfranklin_3 ,Dec 05 '05
Pros: The car was very nice. Cons: The charge for one day over was excessive!
I rented a car from Avis in Sophia, Bulgaria. I had purchased premium rental car insurance from American Express before I rented the car and paid in full for the rental in advance through Auto Europe. When I got to Sophia the Avis rep would not give me the keys until I signed the collision damage waiver - which is insurance that I didn't need. I returned the car one day late and Avis charged me $160 for the one day. I made an inquiry about the charge and they confirmed it was for being one day late, but said it was only $130. That was not the charge on my card. The average daily rate for the rental was only $36. So, $160 for one day was extremely excessive. Also, the Avis reps were not at the desk when I tried to return the car the day I was suppose to have returned it and they do not answer the phone. I recommend using another company.
I never thought I'd recommend their competitors...but I do by shram1234 ,Sep 26 '05
Pros: LHR Avis is open 24/7, handy when picking up replacement cars at 2AM. Cons: They rent lemons, and don't appear to understand what "We try harder" means.
I picked up a brand-new rental in London in June 05 and after half a day of driving the car broke down (it would not let me change out of neutral).
That would not be reason enough to criticise Avis...but then they took NINE HOURS to send a tow truck...by which time I'd missed the critical meeting at which I was due to sell my products. Did I mention that I'd flown in from the US for just that meeting?
When I got back to the USA, things did not improve:
- I wrote to their Parsipanny/NJ headquarters. No response.
- I filled out a customer service feedback form on their website. They passed it to Avis UK and said I'd get an answer in 14days. That was back in August.
What else?
- They never call/email me to tell me what's going on
- I have to spend MY TIME chasing them for information instead of them DOING THEIR JOB and telling me about developments.
"We try harder" - yeah, right.
I will continue to actively discourage people from using Avis until they learn to treat their customers with respect.
Pros: ? Cons: Car selection staff price Misleading
I was not given the free upgrade or discount promised when the car was reserved. I think it is a scam that "coupon discounts are NOT included in the estimated total, but will be calculated and applied at the time of rental". By the time the customers get to the counter they are not going to go somewhere else when they don't like the deal avis is giving. I was very uncomfortable in the car I was given. I rented a full size and was suppose to be given a free upgrade. Also I asked the guy "what is the total price going to be out the door". He told me $128. When I come back with the car 3 days later I was charged $156. What a scam. I will never rent with Avis again. I am going to complain to USAA and anyone else who will listen. I was lied to by this rude agency operator. I wasn't given the upgrade or discount promised. "We try harder" really?
Renting in Fort Lauderdale? Watch out! by tmccrain ,Apr 13 '09
Pros: Car was clean. Cons: Tremendously long wait Absolutely unaccountable and unavailable after the sale.
I rented from Avis out of the Fort Lauderdale Airport, and I was scammed. They provided discounts at the desk that were not reflected on the receipt at the airport on return. A phone call to their billing dept. was frustrating and maddening. They did not know anything, and they didn't care. The basic math on the reseipt didn't add up - no reasoning, no excuses, they just didn't care - pay the bill. Having spent over an hour waiting to talk to a billing representative lead me to believe that person would be able to do something, anything. They read the exact line items I had on the receipt (which did not add up), and told me they needed more detail, detail which was not provided on their contract or receipt.
I rent cars quite a bit in my business, and I now see why my company does not deal with Avis.
Avis- A dishonest company by yvonnechoe ,Apr 28 '09
Pros: I won't rent with this company again. Cons: Avis is a dishonest company that does not value it's customers.
I rented a car from Avis in April 2009 as I had the impression that they were a good company. However, I had a bad experience and will definately not go back.
I rented the car and used half of a tank of gas touring around Victoria. I filled the tank and showed my gas reciept to the guy at the counter when I returned the car. A few days later I checked my visa statement and my credit card was subsequently charged $21 for not filling the car. Avis refused to refund the charge, stating that I couldn't prove the car was full when it was returned. I can't believe the blatant dishonesty of this company. Don't rent with Avis!
Pros: You get a car (at least) Cons: Began charging people for minor damages not caused by the present driver.
Avis is a con. They are now trying to make extra money by making you pay for vehicle damage that I did not do. I wont be renting from them again. Their staff are so rude. I have rented from Avis for 5 years and I can definitely say that I wont be renting from them again.
Pros: Easy check-in and out Cons: Avis doesn't train staff properly and won't correct staff errors.
Be wary of Avis promotions; when we rented a car through Priceline, we were told by the counter staff that we were eligible for a free two-day rental (this promotion was visible on a poster) which we could apply for online.
After searching on the internet, emailing and finally a phone call, I discovered that promotions are available only to full-price rentals and that you have to apply at the counter with the agent. Agents apparently have brochures with the terms and conditions.
When I called Avis to let them know we had been mislead by the counter agent, the only help they would offer was a coupon for a future rental.
They really do try harder... by kelelyn100 ,Aug 04 '05
Pros: plenty of cars, good prices Cons: ...none...
I took a vacation with my family and I needed a rental car company who would be willing not only to pick us up, but allow me to leave the car at the train station when our vacation was over and we were to head back home.
I originally reserved a van with a company who promised that they could deliver on the above said circumstances. They did in fact "pick us up", but when we got to their office to go over the paperwork, they backed out on the promise that was made to me two times on the phone.
After getting over my initial anger, I pulled myself together and called the Omaha, NE Avis Car Rental office, the woman I talked to assured me that they could help me out, and that it was something they did often.
Not only did they have plenty of cars available, their prices were much better. I rented the car from Avis, then had my mom drive the other car back to the other car company.
Thank you Omaha Nebraska Avis office for definitely trying harder!
Great car, quite pleased by newtoflorida ,Jan 14 '06
Pros: Like the Hyundai Sonata very much Cons: Very busy counter at ATL. Could use more help
Picked up a car at ATL, drove it to Florida. Hated the airport in Atlanta, but loved the car. They offered me a choice of a Pontiac Grand Prix, or a Hyundai Sonata. I didn't know what the Hyundai Sonata was like, but I was willing to give it a try. I loved the car. I got between 28 & 31 miles per gallon on the highway, and it averaged around 24 mpg for the whole trip. The car performed well and had lots of power and plenty of options. Avis is very good at taking care of the customer. I now know that Hyundai makes a very good car and I will opt for that model in the future.
Pros: They smile really big knowing they'll overcharge you later. Cons: Fraudulent charges - unresponsive company - poor feedback portal on website - jerky manager
Rented from Avis in Ft. Lauderdale. Was charges $6.99/gal. for a full tank of gas but was given a car with only have a tank. One month after I had returned the car I was charged for unspecified "damage". The manager failed to produce photos he said were his proof. I am disputed the charges. Avis continued to stonewall, refusing to allow me to speak to anyone in customer service above the cubicle level. After much demanding I spoke with someone who gave me the necessary contact information. I later learned that this person was reprimanded for doing her job, so even the employees get the same bad treatment. After speaking with the district manager he told me that he reviewed the photos and there seemed to be cigarette holes in the upholstery. Funny since it was only my 7 and 10 year old daughters who were in the back seat and I assure you that they weren't smoking back there without me knowing it. After weeks of fighting, they "promise" to reverse the charges, but we all know what the AVIS promise is worth.
Avis Customer Service - The Industry's Worse! by captivacard ,Dec 27 '05

Terrible renting experience at Avis Hungary by acroulet ,May 27 '09
Pros: nothing more than the other rental car have. Cons: extremely bad customer service
I have rented a car before Easter in Budapest. First of all, it took 1 month to get the invoice. When I returned the car, they found a scratch on the back door (inside). I was surprised when I saw it as I was driving alone so for sure I didn't cause this scratch. No one was on the parking when I picked up the car and of course, there was one guy when I returned the car. As I am living in Sweden, the customer service in Hungary asked me to contact Sweden. Of course the office in Sweden doesn't know anything and say that what Avis Hungary says is the truth. Are you checking each millimeter of the car when getting in ? I have had other problems with Avis in the past so this is my last time buy at Avis, for sure!
Pros: There are no pros. Cons: Costs twice the advertised price. Scammers for Customer Service.
To keep it short, my family went to florida on spring break. Rented from AVIS, didn't get the car we rented and had to rent a step up costing $100 more. Upon our return was charged $140 for having sand in the car. We went to the beach twice and each time showered our feet before getting back into the car...bottom line don't rent AVIS CARS. EVER.
Pros: Good car Cons: Sneaky rental agents, sorry customer relations
I will not rent from AVIS again. While on personal travel I rented and pre-paid for an AVIS sub-compact car. When I arrived at my destination, the rental agent told me that I was renting a compact car. Being tired, I didn't check that I was getting the car that I had paid for.
When I returned the car, the AVIS rental agent charged me extra for the compact car. I e-mailed AVIS customer relations about the extra charge and the ambush rental. Their stance is that I signed the contract and I owed them the money.
Pros: The car itself wa so-so. Cons: They try harder--to tick you off.
The car itself was so-so. The service was poor and slow at the counter. Then I was overcharged for the car--the rate they quoted on my reservation was lower than the rate they charged when I went to pick up the car, which was lower than the rate they charged when I dropped off the car. No one would listen to me when I complained.
MY FIRST AND LAST TIME USING AVIS by pommiepower ,Jun 10 '09
Pros: NEVER USE AVIS AGAIN , RIP OFFS, NOT A BIG RANGE OF CARS Cons: VERY SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND VERY EXPENSIVE RATES. NOT COMPETATIVE AT ALL.
I AM VERY UPSET WITH AVIS'S CUSTOMER SERVICE AT MASCOT AIRPORT. IVE BEEN WAITING TO GET SERVED FOR ALEAST 25 MINS CAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE INTHERE. PLUS WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE I DROVE STRAIGHT OUT OF THE CAR PARK AND THE TYRE BLEW. I WENT TO THE DESK TO GET HELP AND THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR A NEW TYRE.
Avis car rental just robbed us by londonid ,Dec 02 '09
Pros: sorry, but can think of no pros regarding service. Car was ok though. Cons: They make money on customers by charging the whole refuelling even if not empty
Last time we used Avis, we paid 260 euros for 3 days ! that includes 140 euros for fuel !!! They forgot to inform us, that if we do not bring the car completely refueled they would charge us the whole fuel (even if it is full to 2/3rd for example) and they charge a service surchage and foreign VAT on top. It was not even a consuming 4x4, but a simple category B car.I will never ever use them again. Also baby car seat was not even installed in the car.
Upsold unnecessary insurance by austin12 ,Aug 25 '09
Pros: Car was fine Cons: Overcharged for really bad customer support
Unfortunately my plans to learn Italian prior to my trip to Italy failed. Because of this, I arranged a reservation with Avis for an all-inclusive package (to include all necessary insurance) and was assured a desk agent and contract in English. When we arrived to pick up our car, we were informed that we did not have adequate insurance and that we would have to purchase additional at 20 Euro/day. Not wanting to ruin our trip because of a minor incident, we agreed to insurance. The trip was great and the car was fine. When I inquired about the insurance charges after we returned, I was informed that the insurance was indeed unnecessary, though since the blurry foreign contract was signed, Avis refused to issue any sort of refund, despite their acknowledgement that this was unnecessary due to either the desk agents mistake or an outright unnecessary upsell. There has been no response from Avis's Italian branch in attempt to allow them to rectify the situation.
Avis- Worst Rental Car Company Ever! by brandon389 ,Nov 02 '09
Pros: none Cons: Will not honor priceline agreement, and charge almost $10.00 a gallon to fill it up.
I travel eight to ten times a year and deal with rental car companies all the time. Yes, they are all a pain to deal with but you expect that. It is something else when they blow you away with being hard to deal with. I got a priceline deal with avis and at the counter the manager refused to recognize price for the agreement. Then they charged me $65.90 to fill up the car which I returned 3/4 full. I don't usually write these reviews but people need to be warned about avis car rental. It is worth paying more and dealing with a reputable rental car company.
OUTRAGEOUS!!! This is my first time renting from AVIS and will be my last time. I usually rent from Enterprise and my average rental charge for Enterprise, with the same size car and same # of days plus insurance/damage/collision, is usually around $180.00. AVIS is too damn expensive with too many hidden fees!!
