Pros: Rented through AAA. They were great and tried to help us.
Cons: Pre-paid car was not available, replaced by smaller car.  Sent coupon as an apology!

We went to Ireland for my son's wedding and rented two cars and pre-paid both.  The first one we picked up with no trouble, but when we went to the airport a few days later with the intention of picking up the second car along with 6 relatives that were just arriving (each car we rented was a van that was supposed to hold 7 people)...they didn't have the car and eventually replaced it with a station wagon, which did not hold all of our guests and luggage. We had to rent taxis to get everyone into Belfast and figure out the rest of the week.  WE asked if they could get us the right car in a day or so and they said no.  When we got home we wrote to complain and they sent us 2 coupons for $25 off a future rental.  The coupons could not even be used together and they had an expiration date. And I am a "Gold" member!

Do not believe anything that the people in Reservations tell you about rates.  Evidently, they do not know what they are talking about.  Customer Service has jacked me around for $45 credit that even the Reservation Department finally admitted was due back to me based on the information they originally gave me.  All the calls I have made to Customer Service has cost them more than $45 in salary to their ignorant Customer Service reps who only know how to transfer you to someone else and then you keep repeating the information.  
Just BEWARE!!  I should have been prepared for this when we went to pick up our car that was PREPAID and they did not have it available.

Prepaid online (never do this!) for a trip to Ireland but my schedule forced me to return the car several days early and I was told I would not receive a refund for the days even though I told them about the schedule change prior to taking the car. I should have just cancelled the contract - it would have been cheaper. Their website is deceptive and charged my credit card when all I wanted was to reserve a car. The car was smaller than I had requested. I called to complain and the contact was rude and defensive from the beginning and why not, they already had my money. Never again Hertz!

Cons: Won't have your car ready at Club Gold area.
Hertz is "sold out" of cars?

As a Hertz #1 Club Gold member I must say this is one club not worth the dues.  First time renting a car, Hertz didn't have my car at the Club Gold area.  They explained to me it was because Hertz "activates" the membership only after the first rental.  I've never heard of such a thing!  A second time I tried to make reservations to rent a car at the San Diego airport Hertz had NO cars available.  I mean none, zip, zero cars.  A Club Gold member wanting to rent a car for a week from a large car rental company and they don't have any cars? Unbelievable!

Cons: Note everything on the car. Don't rent out of state cars

I rented a Mitsubishi Outlander with Nevada plates in June from Sea-Tac's Hertz.
First the keyfob was broken and held together with duct tape, and the car had some scratches on it.
I took full insurance but when I went to return it a scratch on the front bumper that wasn't noted got me $350.00 poor. Even with the insurance the lady said that because the car had "Out of State" plates it wouldn't cover the scratch because it wasn't noted in Nevada. Also the key fob was fix by my self apparently and I did'nt notify Hertz about the problem. It was busted when i got it.
I'm currently in the process to get my $350.00 back and force Hertz to change their policy and send "out of state" cars back to the state they come from.

Cons: Long wait, terrible customer service, chaotic return process.

After waiting in line for 30 minutes (and we were next in line!), we came face to face with someone who looked human, but acted and spoke like a robot. It was very disheartening to wait in line for so long and then be treated like we weren't worth speaking to like human beings. It almost felt like we were being hustled, with the representative trying to upsell us on everything, and giving us no time to ask questions during her rehearsed routine. The return process was very confusing and disorganized, although the representative who finally scanned our car was helpful and efficient (once we got him over to our car). Never again will I willingly rent from this company.

ORF Hertz. Felt like I was made to pick from left overs... if I thought about it more I should have just gone to the Enterprise counter. I've always had great service from them.

Hertz gave me the phone number of their counter after I rented the car but never once did they pick up in the week I rented the car. I know they are not that busy because the first time I tried it I had not left the airport yet. Since they were not answering the phone, I walked up to them to point the dents on the car and no one was in line.

Pros: The car was clean.
Cons: Actual charges higher than quoted
No feedback from the Customer service despite 2 complaints

I booked a car at Glasgow Airport online, with two booster seats for my children. They were supposed to be £15 (for the two of them)for the week, according to the quotation.

But when I received the bill at home, a few days after returning the car, I found out that I had been charged £35 (2 x £17.5) !

Of course, I complained through the Customer Satisfaction Survey I was asked to complete afterwards, but it really looks like the so-called Customer service has no interest at all in my comments... Or maybe it is overstreched due to many complaints ?

I would have appreciate at least some explanations about the billing and eventually to get my money back if, as I assume, a mistake was made.

I reserved an economy car with GPS for a 2 day long distance trip, but was told by the office that no economy car and no GPS was available. As consolation, they gave me a free upgrade to a Nissan Altima hybrid (which had even better gas mileage than the economy car I had reserved), retained the insurance rates for the economy car, and gave me a 1/2 tank of free gas (equal in value to an extra day's economy rental)! With such great customer care, I will be sure to use Hertz for all my car rental needs.

We rented a car for Ireland and got the minor collision insurance. We should have gotten the full insurance (if that even would have helped). Someone hit the side of our car and made a ding about the size of a walnut. Hertz charged us 1500 for repairs. Some of the outlined charges included; transport fees, paint fees, waste removal, loss of revenue fee, polish fee, final checking fee, parts and tools charge, and MORE! I guess we supplied them with new hammers and nails too!

Absolutely absurd, and we have no way to fight it, we just have to pay it or ruin our credit.

I will never rent from Hertz again.

Hertz Rentals provided me and my partner with a small car for a 2 week rental in Portugal. The car was nothing special (A Kia Rio)  and wasn't intended to be. When we returned it , it was dusty and dirty but not excessively so and nothing that the standard inbound car wash would not have dealt with. We had a 40€ (+ tax) "exterior cleaning" charge added to our exit receipt  because we had used it "off-road" (read unsealed road). 
Yes the car was dirty, but its a rental car and they have to expect a reasonable amount of dirt over a 2 week period.
I would never use Hertz again in any part of the world as they have added a cleaning charge for something they would do anyway as normal process and for which they would incur no extra charge. We were not explicitly told that the car had to be cleaned before return and as a premium brand i wouldnt expect it to have to be. Its why I pay a little more, to get professional service. 

Pros: There really wasn't any pro's on this rental, as we had problems from day one.

Gas tank was not full.
Main't rec'q light was on.

Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. If you have a problem, and contact them in regards to it, they say, if the contract has closed,  "there's nothing that they can do to help". To me this is "POOR customer service.

Pros: Hertz customer service was great with resolving problems. 
Cons: Had a malfunction with the security system on our vehicle. 

On the third day of our vacation, our rental vehicle had a malfuntion with the security system.  The car wouldn't start and the engine shut down.  Hertz customer service tried resolving the problem over the phone, sent an emergency vehicle to assist.  After that didn't work they sent a cab to pick us up and go to the airport for a new vehicle, as it was after hours and all the other offices were closed.  We got a new vehicle and had the cab fare reimbursed within a short time. 

The biggest PRO was after I realized I left my cell phone in the 2nd rental car.  The lost & found customer service agent found the vehicle, put a hold on it, had it searched and found my phone!  I was so relieved.  They also overnighted my phone back to me without a fee.  In spite of fluke with the security feature malfuntion, I would definitely rent from Hertz again.  I thought my phone and MP3 player loaded with awesome music was a gonner.  Not so, thanks to Hertz and honest employees. 

Pros: Only one thing, I used less gas with this car .
Cons: The car smelled like someone had been overdosing on Brut men's cologne. 

I rented a mid-size car from Hertz last Thursday through Sunday morning for about $400.  The counter clerk assigned me a Toyota Corolla which is well know to be classified as an economy car.  When I questioned her, she stated that the Corolla is a mid-size car! 
Not only was I reeling from the cost of a $400 for a 2 day 9 hour rental but felt that they cheated me out of a mid-size.

Good bye Hertz, no more will I rent your cars and I intend to tell everyone I know about your rip-off scheme.
