High Heat drives member away by segue1122 ,Oct 24 '06
Pros: Convenient locations. Variety of equipment. Cons: TOO HOT!!!! Empathetically challenged staff regarding customer complaints.
I have been to several 24 hour fitness facilities in the Seattle area. All have been too hot for me to tolerate for more than 30 minutes. I have been told by management that no one else has complained about this and it appears to be my problem only.
I am new to 24 Hour Fitness and started to buy into it being my problem as I am pre-menopausal. Thanks for the opinions on this site I realize this is a bigger problem than my raging hormones.
Due to management's deceptive handling of this issue, blaming me and the temperatures outside, I will not remain a member of this gym.
Other gyms offer competitive prices that include proper ventilation.
Pros: LOTS OF CARDIO EQUIPMENT Cons: THE STAFF DOES NOT CLEAN THE EQUIPMENT OR ENFORCE THE CLEAN AFTER USE RULE!
I WORK OUT AT THE AUSTIN 24 HOUR FITNESS, HANCOCK CENTER. I GET A GOOD WORKOUT, BUT I ALSO GOT AN INFECTION! THIS CENTER PROVIDES ONE DISINFECTANT BOTTLE FOR THE WHOLE FITNESS AREA! NO ONE WIPES DOWN THE EQUIPMENT AFTER USE. IT IS REALLY DISGUSTING. I HAVE FOUND TISSUES WITH BODY FLUIDS IN THE DRINK HOLDERS. NONE OF THE EMPLOYEES WALK AROUND TO CHECK THE FLOOR. I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED, AS THE MEMBERSHIP IS NOT CHEAP!
Do you want to know how I feel about 24 hour fitness. THEY SUCK. And I advise that you don't get a membership there. My husband and I both had memberships there and they had us set up automatic payments. That was the ONLY way that we could join their club. However, When we would go in to work out "oops you have not payed for this month". Liar. So we had to continually set up automatic payments that never worked. Then when we went to cancel because we were tired of dealling with their crappy system and incompetant staff. They said we had to give a 30 DAY NOTICE. So we got billed for yet another month. What really made me mad me off was then after we cancelled they STILL BILLED US FOR CONSEQUTIVE MONTHS. I AM VERY MAD!!!
DON'T JOIN 24 HOUR FITNESS.
24 Hour Fitness at Hillsdale, San Jose California by virtually_here ,Apr 24 '07
Pros: There is always available equipment, machines, floorspace and weights. Their stuff is really brand new. Cons: It may get crowded, but it's never a bad work-out. The music can be loud.

Honostly, this gym is a big motivator. The members there really work-out and burn, burn, burn. It's contagious. I get into my work-out faster, stay there longer and keep reaching for that little bit extra.
The staff and management are expert, too.
The club is a cultural mix of everybody and everone's friendly.
Pros: good looking members (everyone looks like they're in a bad mood though). fairly new equipment. Cons: pushy sales people. too crowded. just a bad vibe...terrible feng shui.
pushy sales people. extremely crowded. no one actually looks like they enjoy being there (employees as well as the customers). overall, there's just a bad vibe...at least at the one I went to (Austin, TX - 10616 Research Blvd). Luckily, I managed to stave off the pushy sales manager guy and worked out there for free with their 10-day free trial. After 2 workouts, I knew there was no way I was going to join.
I actually felt worse after working out there.
24 Hour Fitness - bait and switch by iner ,May 06 '05
Pros: It's a gym. Cons: Buying into a membership has become a circus.
"What's it gonna take for me to get you into a gym membership today!?" That's nearly how it went with the gym salesman.
Trying to find out information on monthly rates was a nightmare. I've had less stress with car salesmen! They would not tell me rates over the phone: I had to make an appointment, at which time the "Fitness Trainer" only provided options that I didn't want. He pressured me with statements like, "Why on earth would you NOT want to have your own personal trainer?" or "You don't take our vitamin supplements?" (paraphrased for brevity)
He would not let me leave without providing him another contact, so he pressured my friend as well as me, trying to get us both to sign up for a fitness product neither of us wanted. I eventually (and after a number of phone calls by this "Trainer") did join at a monthly rate - what I wanted in the first place - but only after the salesman had exhausted all other attempts at selling me white elephants.
The sales pressure from 24-Hour Fitness is unparalleled.
Pros: Convenient Locations Cons: Sleazy Business Practices. Indifferent employees. Wannabee personal trainers.
Sleazy business practices.
When I canceled my membership a few years ago, they wouldn't take the cancellation over the phone. As a result, I couldn't get to the closest club for 3 months and so they got another $45 dollars.
Just cancelled my daughter's membership and saw a charge on my credit card the exact day that I cancelled.
Called 24 hour and was told to check my membership agreement as their policy is that you have to cancel 10 days before the billing cycle. OK, then can you just eliminate the charge as a friendly consumer gesture since you didn't provide any service?
Of course their response was "NO" and they defended it over and over because "That's our policy."
I personally had been a member since 1978 (back to the Family Fitness days) until 2002 with a few missed years in between but they still wanted that last $19 from me.
24 Hour Fitness fiasco- horrid customer service by qurratulain ,Jun 10 '06
Pros: Absolutely none. Cons: Read review please.
I was a member for over 2 years when after medical problems I asked for my membership to be cancelled. After 3 months, I realize theyve been charging me STILL through easy pay. When I called to ask for a refund and an explaination please, I had to wait for 3 hours and speak with 6 different people. Imagine my surprise when not only did they continue charging me but refused to acknowledge that I had repeatedly asked for my membership to be cancelled.
Throughout the situation, not once did I get to speak to a supervisor- they were always 'busy assisting other customers'. Also, the customer service folks got especially nasty (specifically a laurisa) when I demanded a refund.
It ended with me asking my bank to stop all payment to these crooks. Imagine what this is going to do to my credit.
I definitely suggest everyone be very careful with 24 hour fitness. Theyre quick to take your money and offer you a membership but its all downhill from there on.

Pros: The hours Cons: Classes aren't challenging, machines stay broken or squeaky without maintenance and aren't the highest quality
I was a member of this gym twice. First, as a child I was forced to go to the gym. Then, as an adult I wanted and started to enjoy being in shape. Now that I have worked at an Omni gym I know there is much more quality available.
Pros: It's cheap, There are a lot of members to complain to Cons: Dirty, overcrowded, high pressure sales, no parking, locker rooms are a disgrace
There is one way to describe the experience "pressure". Its not about you the member and what is best for you. It is about what is best for the sales person trying to push a membership and 24 personal training sessions on you. If you do fall into the trap and you do make it to your first training session the disappointment just keeps going. The only trainers that would train there are inexperienced just looking to get some training under there belt using it as a stepping stone. I know I used to work there and it inspired me to open my own Health club. My goal is to be the exact opposite, customer service, no pressure, experienced trainers. Getting you to your goal should be the focus of all clubs not just getting your money!
Fraud Customer Rep and Irrresponsible behaviour by t_tsatish ,Apr 11 '07
Pros: Able to work out Cons:
Take everthing in written.
Don;t agree to opt for Automatic deduction
I joined Bellevue hrs Fitness review. On my first vist the cusotmer service rep was very polite and friendly provided me all the junk review and different payment options.
He promised me that i can degrade my membership any time so i opted for the best membership avalivale. After few months i observeed that i was not using Gym much so wanted to degrade my Membership. I call the toll free no and the customer care rep said i can downgrade it to only one level at one time and be in that for six month to down grade further. Which is totally rediculus written no where in the document.
Then they offered me first month free which was not done for first 5 months even after several reminders.
Then i was charged some 24$ for no good reason. when i called the customer care she said its not in their list. and need to send the statement copy.
OVer all the managemetn is very irresponsible and rules are made to cheat people.
Pros: Nice equipment. Great hours of operation. Cons: Poor customer service. Salesmen comission-driven. Once they have you on contract, they don't care. Overcrowded.
Customer service at 24-hour Fitness does not exist after they've got you in their grasp. They don't return phone calls. They don't call you when they say they will. They don't care about your complaints. They'll tell you that they will "check into it" and won't do a thing.
Advice: if you sign up for a three year deal - be sure to keep all of your paperwork on file. Your deal WILL have changed three years down the road. You will have to prove your original contract. We've gone through corporate, local, and everything else we can think of. They refuse to hold up their original deal and will only offer us what they see in their computer today (very different deal from three years ago).
Don't sign up with 24 Hour! Stick to your local Rec. Center!
Pros: INEXPENSIVE Cons: RARELY: a popular machine has remained broken for 3 weeks before being fixed.
I reside in San Diego, and I have been a lifetime member of 24-Hour Fitness for maybe 7 years. I payed probably $850.- for the first three years, and then I had a guarantee of only $99.- per year for every year afterward. For years now, I have been paying only $99.- per year.
Though lifetime memberships now cost alittle less: $700.- for the first 3 years, and then offer a guarantee of only $49.- per year thereafter, I am nevertheless satisfied with my own closely similar deal.
I consider myself to have such a wonderful deal, that I have great difficulty understanding how 24-Hour Fitness can offer such deals.
Furthermore, I cannot help but conclude that anyone complaining about this, will complain about almost anything. / And I do not work for 24-Hour Fitness, nor have I ever, nor do I have plans to. So, I have no biases. I am simply telling the truth as I see it.
The club is to Hot and Stuffy by proguild ,Oct 12 '06
Pros: Makes joining another club and easier decision Cons: Lack of A/C makes you breathe more second hand air.
They have cut back on Air Conditioning in all of their So. Cal clubs. They did this sometime around 4th of July.
Club temperatures range from 76 to 80 hot and stuffy degrees, depending on outside weather and time of day. Sometimes the smell is overpowering due to the lack of A/C and no windows and doors being open. At 10pm the A/C is raised to a stifling 82 degrees giving us no outside air at all.
Club is more overcrowded than ever because everybody slows down their workout. By 10:30 at night due to the high indoor humidity, you can sweat just standing still.
Have complained to management, they told me that it is a corporate plan to save money on A/C and they don't care about members complaints. Even the higher priced sports clubs have cut back on air conditioning.
Sorry to say that after 12 years as a member, I am going to have to join another club.
Pros: Lots of equipment. Friendly staff Cons: Pool to cold. The women's shower and restrooms are always a mess.
24 hr fitness center in Fremont,Ca is good. However the pool is to cold and I see people complaining about the pool while they are in the water but I don't know if they ever complain to the staff. I even seen one woman wear rain gear in the pool just to keep from getting the cold wet water on her body. I hope Fremont staff will adjust the pool temperature. I see more people in the Hot tub than in the pool.
