Bally's Total Fitness stole my money!

by joshprothin , Oct 11 '09
Pros: Their facilities are fine. But, nothing special.
Cons: They steal your money. They will hunt you down to get it.
I signed up for a 3 year membership. At 2.5 years, I moved from California to a northeastern state that does not have a Bally's Total Fitness within 50 miles or more. In the fine print of my contract, it says I can cancel my membership if this occurs (if ...

Overheated Gym is Unusable!

by sassygirl18 , Jul 31 '09
Pros: Generally positive but recent increase in temperature makes gym unusable.
Cons: Gym feels like a sauna! Not useable.
Bally Total Fitness recently instituted a change to the temperature in their gyms. They have ordered all their gyms to set their thermostats at 76 degrees, which - in the summer - results in an actual temperature in the gym of well into the 80s, possibly ...

Brink of Bankruptcy?

by dcpaige , May 29 '09
Pros: lot's of available equipment
Cons: see above...
How can you tell when a gym is low on funds and the brink of going out of business?1) On several days at a time gym has NO paper towls, the excuse is UPS does not deliver paper towels during operating hours. UPS delivers from 6:00 am until 12 ...

Bally makes it impossible to cancel membership.

by cherry23 , May 19 '09
Pros: Honestly, there are none.  Maybe that I got a 1 free training session upon signup?
Cons: - Cannot reach cancellation line
- Bad music and TV
- Sales pressure
I signed up for Bally Fitness on a month to month contract for 55.99 a month.  When I went in there to sign up, I was pressured into a yearly rate, but I was strong and resisted.  I was not given the option to send a payment every month like ...

Bally Total Fitness: A joke!!!

by fekesa20 , Apr 06 '09
Pros: no pros
Cons: don't join bally total fitness
I have been a member of Bally Total Fitness and couldn't be more unpleased with this company. They denied my cancelation but never explained the terms in which you could cancel. Apparently they have a 3 year contract you have no way of getting out of. ...

Buyer beware!

by surfersteve9 , Feb 15 '09
Pros: Good selction of cardio equipment, clean pool/sauna area, friendly staff.
Cons: Nazi contract, small facility, outdated equipment, costly extras, ghetto clientele
I first joined Bally's because I lived 5 minutes away. I have moved since then but because I now live within 30 miles of the gym, I am still bound by my contract. I no longer work out as much because it is very inconvenient. This contract is legally ...

Stay Away from Bally's

by seachild777 , Feb 12 '09
Pros: None
Cons: too many to list
Bally's as a whole is a business founded on cheating it's customers--plain and simple.  It preys on people's weaknesses--a business model typical for the industry, but embraced whole-heartedly by this company, especially now that health has become ...

Bally's Total Fitness = Nightmare

by mat342 , Oct 14 '08
Pros: Raquetball
Cons: Locker Rooms, Customer Service, Contracts
For the past two years I have belonged to Ballys and primarily used the Mt. Prospect, IL location. My membership is finally up in December. I am counting down the days. Ballys was a step up from another gym I once belonged to, but still not the best ...

Rip Off!!!!!

by gregmoneypsu , Jul 02 '08
Pros: Nothing even remotely resembling a pro.
Cons: Service, facilities, cleanliness, environment, 3 year contract, monthly rates, sign up fee, everything else
Do not join this gym. Can I give it zero stars? That would actually be giving it too much credit. The help was horrible. The equipment is alright, but certainly nothing special. And absolutely forget about it if you are trying to talk to corporate ...

About Bally Total Fitness And LA fitness

by dafitnessking , Jun 25 '08
Pros: Bally,s can get you fit in a suitable time for some.
Cons: But LA Fitness will have you fit in no time compared to Bally's.
Bally total gym is a great gym to go to, it has many things for you to do to get into shape, depending on the person and there fitness goals, but the thing is, is that LA Fitness is much better than Bally's. if you were to experience them both like i ...

SCAM! NOT WORTH THE BS!

by jordan339 , Jun 03 '08
Pros: not a thing.
Cons: dirty and crowded. rude and deceitful. Its all a scam to steal your money.
I'm 18 years old. I signed what seemed to be a reasonable contract but it turned out I was just naive. After a little while I realized what ridiculous requirements they expected, but having signed a contract i figured the best I could do was suffer ...

Warning - Don't Use Bally Gyms

by tropicalisle23 , May 16 '08
Pros: I can't think of any. Joining a Bally's was the biggest mistake ever.
Cons: That Bally's is in existence.
At first this seemed like a great deal. The location was good for me and there weren't that many other gyms to choose from anyway. I just went in to find out prices. But the guy trying to sign me up seemed really nice and when I told him I was a college ...

Beware Bally Total Fitness is not Bally Sports Club

by hollydc13 , Mar 27 '08
Pros: lots of equipment. Many locations (if you can get into all of them)
Cons: Tricky wording on contracts, current fees are overpriced.
3/27/08 *This is a bit lengthy but worth it - Read this if you are planning on buying someone's old membership or getting it transferred from someone else* Wow, what a month I've had trying to get this membership. I live in Manhattan right next ...

Pros: decent facility lots of locations
Cons: not all classes included free with membership dishonest business practices unhelpful customer service
I have been a member at my local Bally's in Los Angeles for about 2 years. We signed a month to month membership and got a deal because we agreed to an automatic billing to my credit card. Everything was fine until I tried to cancel my membership two ...

by beckytcy Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Feb 01 '08
Pros: cheap, convenient location
Cons: dirty, no towels, can rope you into a long contract
My name is Becky, and I’m a gym-a-holic. If I don’t go to the gym for a couple of days, I get anxious and irritable, and I can’t sleep, and all I can think about is when the next time I can work out. I started wondering what it was that I ...
