Don't join!!!

by jamwin , Mar 19 '01
Pros: None, considering what they do to you.
Cons: They lie to you.
Check out this website dealing with the BTF problem:

http://www.mwns.com/btf/

They have been overcharging me for months and I am having a tough time getting them to stop! I transferred my membership from New Jersey (even though...

The truth behind Ballys

by pintastic , Apr 05 '04
Pros: None
Cons: They will purposely mislead you.
I was very hesitant about joining Ballys before I walked in. I actually walked away once and went back. I was uncomfortable signing a 3 year contract. However, one of the sales girls explained that if I moved away from that Ballys, I could cancel for ...

Brink of Bankruptcy?

by dcpaige , May 29 '09
Pros: lot's of available equipment
Cons: see above...
How can you tell when a gym is low on funds and the brink of going out of business?1) On several days at a time gym has NO paper towls, the excuse is UPS does not deliver paper towels during operating hours. UPS delivers from 6:00 am until 12 ...

Overheated Gym is Unusable!

by sassygirl18 , Jul 31 '09
Pros: Generally positive but recent increase in temperature makes gym unusable.
Cons: Gym feels like a sauna! Not useable.
Bally Total Fitness recently instituted a change to the temperature in their gyms. They have ordered all their gyms to set their thermostats at 76 degrees, which - in the summer - results in an actual temperature in the gym of well into the 80s, possibly ...

Bally's Total Fitness stole my money!

by joshprothin , Oct 11 '09
Pros: Their facilities are fine. But, nothing special.
Cons: They steal your money. They will hunt you down to get it.
I signed up for a 3 year membership. At 2.5 years, I moved from California to a northeastern state that does not have a Bally's Total Fitness within 50 miles or more. In the fine print of my contract, it says I can cancel my membership if this occurs (if ...

Where do I get their rates?

by kosheks , Jan 01 '08
Pros: location, pool, equipment
Cons: sales tactics, prices, broken sauna ( in my location - Cambridge, MA), AWFUL Customer Service
I have been under 1 year contract with Ballys in NJ and everything went well up until I had to move to a third-world country for personal reasons. You would think that this is exactly the situation that is described in the cancellation rules of the ...

Bally's Total Fitness = Nightmare

by mat342 , Oct 14 '08
Pros: Raquetball
Cons: Locker Rooms, Customer Service, Contracts
For the past two years I have belonged to Ballys and primarily used the Mt. Prospect, IL location. My membership is finally up in December. I am counting down the days. Ballys was a step up from another gym I once belonged to, but still not the best ...

Bally Total Fitness: A joke!!!

by fekesa20 , Apr 06 '09
Pros: no pros
Cons: don't join bally total fitness
I have been a member of Bally Total Fitness and couldn't be more unpleased with this company. They denied my cancelation but never explained the terms in which you could cancel. Apparently they have a 3 year contract you have no way of getting out of. ...

Rip Off!!!!!

by gregmoneypsu , Jul 02 '08
Pros: Nothing even remotely resembling a pro.
Cons: Service, facilities, cleanliness, environment, 3 year contract, monthly rates, sign up fee, everything else
Do not join this gym. Can I give it zero stars? That would actually be giving it too much credit. The help was horrible. The equipment is alright, but certainly nothing special. And absolutely forget about it if you are trying to talk to corporate ...

Buyer beware!

by surfersteve9 , Feb 15 '09
Pros: Good selction of cardio equipment, clean pool/sauna area, friendly staff.
Cons: Nazi contract, small facility, outdated equipment, costly extras, ghetto clientele
I first joined Bally's because I lived 5 minutes away. I have moved since then but because I now live within 30 miles of the gym, I am still bound by my contract. I no longer work out as much because it is very inconvenient. This contract is legally ...

Bally makes it impossible to cancel membership.

by cherry23 , May 19 '09
Pros: Honestly, there are none.  Maybe that I got a 1 free training session upon signup?
Cons: - Cannot reach cancellation line
- Bad music and TV
- Sales pressure
I signed up for Bally Fitness on a month to month contract for 55.99 a month.  When I went in there to sign up, I was pressured into a yearly rate, but I was strong and resisted.  I was not given the option to send a payment every month like ...

Filthy

by ta90048 , Jul 12 '07
Pros: only 5 miles to my home
Cons: to many to count
They have the rule here that require members use a towel during the work out. However, they don't enforce the rule. That's the reason you see sweating spots all over the machines and equipments here. They also don't enforce the rule of "shaving is not ...

What a HUGE Mistake!
by alex2001 ,Dec 05 '03
Pros: cheap
Cons: Unfriendly Staff, Not Clean, Not Enough machines during peak times, 3 Year Contract
I should have read the reviews in this forum before joining Bally!!! The fact that Bally has the LOWEST ratings among gyms is a great indication ==> DO NOT JOIN IT!

BEFORE I signed the contract the staff was nice and friendly. AFTER I signed the contract they became Unfriendly, Unhelpful, and even Rude. Also, the staff is not well trained to answer the simplest of questions.

The changing area is not as clean as I expected. The showers are dirty and disgusting. I took a shower only once. Since then, I do not have the courage to take showers on Bally's facilities.

There are not enough machines. Many times I had to wait for machines. This happens very often during peak hours.
