Can you say CHEAP and SODIUM Loaded
by lb31291 ,Sep 16 '05
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Cheap
The food is simply GARBAGE. I was on Jenny Craig and switched to save money. I saved money and got garbage in return. Jenny Craig has AWESOME food - all meals and snacks on Jenny Craig are incredibly good. Nitrisystem has okay dinners and the rest is just junk. And it is loaded with sodium. Nothing on Nutrisystem is fresh - everything is either dried or vacuum packed. Because they ship food in the mail with slow delivery they cannot send fresh items. What you get are TONS of preservatives, loads of sodium and dehydrated slop. Ramen noodles are better.

Nutrisystem: Positive and Negatives as with all Programs
by glimpser ,Feb 12 '06
Pros: It works well short term, and is convenient.
Cons: Too pricey @ 11 bux or more a day.
I chose to order a month's supply of the Nourish Weekends off Plan for 2 reasons:

1. I need a reprieve from handeling, shopping for, and otherwise preparing food. "Recreational" cooking stretched my appetite and my stomach. I wanted to decrease the chances of overeating as much as possible, and this seemed to be the healthiest and best way.

2. There was a deal on a major TV shopping channel that broke it down to about 9 bux a day. If I liked it, I could even have the following months' supplies mailed directly to my house.

So, no cooking 5 days a week and only shopping every other week is good. The 'taste' of most of the stuff is good. It's a no brainer, which is sometimes what I need.

However, it comes to over 11 bux a day, which is too expensive for me. There's too much sodium and the consistancy of the foods are too mushy for my likes, so this worked well for one month (I lost 15 lbs.) but not a long term option for me.

Nothing with a shelf life of two years can be good for you.
by chemoangel ,Oct 20 '06
Pros: Convenient, convenient, convenient.
Cons: Icky taste; lots of ingredients I cannot pronounce.
When I turned 39, my metabolism did that famous shift people talk about. I was pretty good about keeping my weight down and fitting into my size 6 jeans for about 5 years. Then my life turned upside down and I exercised less and ate more. I found myself about 20 pounds more than I should weigh -- or 20 pounds above my comfort weight. Okay, long story a little shorter I tried the Nutrisystems program that QVC offers. I was surprised that everything is either dehydrated or very highly preserved. I love to cook and can cook up some pretty healthy meals. And I also like really fresh ingredients. I usually go to the grocery store at least twice a week, sometimes every day. What could I possibly have been thinking? It was an impulse move and I have cancelled my auto delivery. I think I'm much better off -- and you probably are too -- to follow the food pyramid, prepare some meals on Sunday when I have the time and freeze them.

This food is really pretty bad.

NutriSystem Food Tastes Terrible
by battgirl2 ,Nov 27 '06
Pros: Convenient
Cons: Taste of Food, portion sizes
I ordered a months supply of the NutriSystem Food about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have already lost 6 pounds, which is wonderful, but I am already planning on canceling my next order because the food is terrible!

The lunch items come in either a plastic cup or a cardboard cup. The plastic cup portions are very small. The cardboard cup items are either pasta of some kind or potatoes. These are prepared by adding boiling water and letting them sit (just like a "Cup-o-noodles"). I have yet to eat a pasta item that cooked all the way. The noodles are crunchy. The "potatoes" are either runny and lumpy or gooey. I have tried using alternate methods of "cooking" them but nothing improves the quality.

Also,I love chocolate so I was excited that they had so many chocolate options for desert. But that excitement faded fast when I tasted them. The Chocolate Almond cookie has a very grainy texture. The Chocolate Macadamia Nut Biscotti has very little flavor and is also grainy.

I am very dissapointed with this diet program. I would never reccomend this diet to anyone because of the poor taste of the food.

Not very tasty
by csmveg ,May 29 '07
Pros: Easy and you don't have to think about meals.
Cons: Much of the food had was not edible.
I am a vegetarian, NutriSystem has a lot of work to do on their vegetarian food, especially their dinners. I guess it helps you lose weight because I threw many of the dinners out half eaten. But then I ate other food because I was hungry so didn't lose as much weight as I hoped. The breakfast and lunches were okay. I do eat eggs and cheese.

The portions are small so you need some time to get used to that. You are allowed veggies and some fruit.

Be very careful ordering. I was having difficulty with their site trying to select certain foods, it was not responding well so it took awhile. Several times I received non decipherable pages. I finally was able to order and did not pay attention and by mistake apparently selected the auto ship (and it was not based on the price I saw, I expected to pay $323) so I was just not paying attention. I was surprised today when a box showed up on my doorstep. I am sending it back. With the bad dinners, this plan is not worth it.

NutriSystem works if you stick to it
by happy240 ,Mar 12 '07
Pros: The plan works you will loose weight
Cons: expensive, food is ok, and will get sick of it after a few months
I started the 28 day plan 13 days ago and have already lost 11 pounds. I have a 40 pound goal. so I am on my way. I got the 28 day variety pack. I like all of the breakfasts, lunches and snacks (except the chocolate dispite what everyone has said its gross) the dinners on the other hand have been just ok, they remind me of chef boy ordee in a can. Some of them have been good. Adding the fruits and veggies helps and drinking the water. For me I use a teaspoon of peanut butter as my fat serving and that gets me through when I am craving something. I plan to stick with it, although I can see getting sick of the food after a few months.

Can this be legally classified as food?
by totalexploit ,Feb 21 '06
Pros: There aren't any.
Cons: Chemical taste, unpalatable (and that is being kind).
After reading this site, I sent for the Nutrisystem program. I dragged the 41 pound box into my house and could not believe how awful the food was. Think of cardboard and weird chemical tastes and maybe you could imagine this. I decided to return this as I was still queasy at 10AM after having their apple cinnamon oatmeal.

Everybody, know this, it costs almost $20.00 to ship it back and is very hard to pick up!

Please don't get this diet. I shudder to think of how people are damaging their bodies with this. You might as well just drink protein powder with water.

Keep your money. Jenny Craig is at least edible even if it also is highly processed.

Food gets boring
by steph7694 ,Jul 26 '06
Pros: Convenience, ease of preparation, delivered right to your door, needs no refrigeration
Cons: Cost, Lack of variety, you still need to buy groceries in addition to the plan
Nutrisystem is convenient, true, but as a vegetarian, the options were very limited. I quickly got tired of eating the same handful of foods over, and over, again. Also, it is much pricier than you would expect, considering that you still need to spend a good amount on groceries, i.e. produce and other protein sources, to go with the plan. I'd say to stick with SlimFast or Weight Watchers.

FOOD OK>>>VERY EASY TO FOLLOW
by twinsmom92005 ,Jul 06 '06
Pros: Easy, convenient, fills you up
Cons: salty, costly
I got the package about a week ago in the mail. The foods so far have been pretty good..although high in sodium. This is not good if you have high blood pressure or kidney problems. The diet is very easy to follow. It does teach good eating habits and portion control. I have not lost anything yet because I have been cheating at night due to impulse eating. If you stretch out the meals throughout the day..you will not be hungry. Me, I stay up late and eat out of boredom.

This is very easy for me to follow. i am an RN and have 3 kids(set of twins) so life is very hectic. I just pop in the meal and eat it whenever.

Im going to stick to this and I will update you on the progress.

NutriSystem not for everyone, but it does work
by hilopup ,Sep 29 '07
Pros: 1)Convenient, 2) Easy to follow, 3) Private, 4) Easy to eat/prepare meals, 5) It works!
Cons: 1)Expensive, 2)Bland, 3)Boring, 4)Too much at once
I've been on the plan twice and have lost weight. Probably would have lost the same weight if I had eaten diet foods from the local market. NutriSystem is convenient for those who can stick to a routine, don't have a lifestyle where you dine out or entertain a lot and are very good at resisting temptation. The first time I was on the plan, I was single and it was a snap. I was always on the move and eating was no big deal. The second time was much harder and less successful because I was in a relationship, spent more time at home, the other person was not on the plan and it was very difficult to cook for him and not want to taste / share in the meals. I've found that I can lose the weight and keep it off by just eating some of the healthy frozen dinners available everywhere these days and, with that approach, I also am able to decide immediately what I want versus having to select a full month of NutriSystem foods in advance and then find myself getting sick of a particular meal that I'm stuck with.

Ordered 28 days ago: Never received
by cardijake ,Feb 26 '07
Pros: none
Cons: never received
Today is Feb. 25. I order the month's supply of food on Jan 28 and have still not received my order. I sent an email and received a reply that emails will be answered in 3 days. I have called several times and after my LONG (at times it has been at least 25 minutes!) session on hold I am told that the order was shipped and I should receive it soon. WHAT??? Won't the food be rotten by now?

Good starting point, but Jenny Craig WAY better
by sarah231 ,Jul 05 '06
Pros: None of the foods are frozen, so you only need pantry space, not freezer space.
Cons: Marginal food and you must buy more perishables than what's reasonable for the cost
I've used the Jenny Craig system twice. Losing 15 pounds both times (my goal) and actually learned to keep it off the 2nd time - for 2 years now.

Then recently, because my husband wanted to lose some weight and wasn't up to going to a weekly JC consultation, we gave Nutrisystem a go. (He wanted to lose 20 pounds. And I could certainly stand to lose another 5 or so, sooo...)
Here's the rundown: If this is your first pre-packaged diet and you absolutely positively cannot make the journey to a Jenny Craig center, then this system is great. (Mainly teaches you portion control)
But, in comparison to Jenny Craig, the food is absolutely abysmal. Jellied-like beef, loads of reconstituting stuff. (adding water to egg powder for scrambled eggs and bean powder for beans and rice. Yish.) Entrees served in a POOL of runny sauces.
But, again, if you can't do JC, then stick with this system - it is tolerable. And it'll definitely do the trick.
But, if you CAN make it to a JC center - then I highly recommend that route - for about $10 more per week, you get REAL, identifiable food.

Terrible food
by timandcristina ,Jul 08 '07
Pros: Easy to follow plan.
Cons: The food is poor. Cost is high considering the quality of the food products.
Purchased in April 07 on the 'qvc' special, 28 day-weekends off plan. Most of the food was very low quality and hard to stomach. I returned the unused portions for a full refund(thank you, qvc - they were great about it). The chocolates were grainy and cheap, and most of the entrees were about the same quality as Chef Boyardee. Pasty pasta, bitter/acidic tomato sauces, strange looking formed meats, and so on. The only items that were 'ok' were the breakfast cereals (which you can substitute Kashi Go-Lean or a similar cereal) and the meal bars (again, bars like Zone and Balance are probably better tasting substitutes). FORGET about the soups and stews (gel-like consistency).
The plan itself is easy to follow (if you can take the food).
IF you are the type of person that enjoys whole foods and enjoys cooking, this is not for you. Even Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, and WW meals are MUCH better quality than Nutri-System (and cost less).

LOVE THIS DIET!
by sweetave ,Jun 06 '05
Pros: Easy to follow diet. You don't get hungry. Variety. Healthy.
Cons: None
Hi. This diet is great. I have so much more energy and just see & feel the physical difference. I've tried the Atkins diet and it was very time consuming & boring as far as options of food to eat for myself. If you want to join Nutrisystem I can email you a $15 off coupon before you join. Or any questions you can email me at sweetave@hotmail.com.

absolutely awful food
by christinarn ,Jul 21 '07
Pros: packed with protein
Cons: disgusting food, expensive
I had really high hopes for the Nutrisystem program but I could not have possibly received the same program of food as the people who say it's great. Nearly all of the food is visually unappealing and tastes disgusting. Eating slop out of a plastic package gets old fast- like in about a week. It is not a complete diet and you still have to supplement fresh foods like vegetables, fruit and dairy or you will never come close to eating a healthy diet.
I received two shipments (over $600.00) and many of the foods I requested were substituted with foods that I would never order or am allergic to. They would not take the food back after six weeks so I gave some away and tossed the rest. Even a food bank said no thank you.
Kudos to Nutrisystem for the slick marketing and advertising- no doubt the cause of the exorbitant price of the food. They are very good at that if anything.
The lesson learned for me? There is no magic and really nothing better than a healthy diet- protein, carbs, fruits and vegetables- normal portions sizes and a daily dose of exercise.
