Ok people... this diet is NOT going to work for you if you have to put sugar on every freakin' piece of fruit you eat OR if you refuse to eat other kinds of fiber (ie. whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables).
The key to this diet is, yes, that grapefruit may burn more calories than what it is worth because of all the energy your body uses during digestion, BUT the other key is fiber. Fiber is in grapefruit and gives you the feeling of being full.
If you eat more fiber and grapefruit together, you should lose weight because naturally you will eat less from feeling more full. ALSO fruits and veggies have natural sugar instead of ADDED sugar which is a lot better for you than that Little Debbie Cupcake you would probably rather have.
Enjoy whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables. Try out different recipes. TRY LOSING WEIGHT THE HEALTHY WAY INSTEAD OF TRYING TO DO IT FOLLOWING A STRICT DIET. After all, you prolly won't incorporate it into your daily life in the end anyway unless you want to be miserable.

Pros: Everything about the grapefruit diet I would give a thumbs up. Cons: I don't think there are any bad parts of doing the grapefruit diet.
I've used the grapefruit diet on many occasions but never long enough to get down to my desired weight loss goals. I've just started back on it and I've promised myself that I will stick with it until I reach my goal weight. I love that the diet is so easy to follow and you see results super fast!! When they say you lose 10lbs in 12 days it is absolutely true!!
The menu is as follows:
Breakfast- 2eggs(any style), 2slices bacon, 1/2 grapefruit or 8oz grapefruit juice/
Lunch- meat (any style), salad(any dressing), 1/2 grapefruit juice or 8oz grapefruit juice.
Dinner- meat(any style), green veggie, 1/2 grapefruit juice or 8oz grapefruit juice, 1cup decaf coffee or tea
Bedtime snack- 8oz tomato juice or skim milk
* diet encourages you to eat until you are full.
After the 12 days on the diet you are off the diet for 2days to eat any foods you like. I think that is great because that helps you not to get too bored with the diet.
