Pros: For intermediate to advanced training requirements, it does the job. Cons: Appearance won't appeal to everyone, may have more features than you need.
I bought this watch when I ordered a WaterRower rowing machine as I needed a Polar transmitter belt for it. I looked at some of the cheaper ranges but was seduced by the S-210's feature list.
Pros: Interval timers, PC-download, real-time data recall functions, user changeable batteries, calorie counter, etc. Cons: Audible beeps are not loud enough.
I had my eyes set on this watch for several weeks and as luck would have it, I found a store that happened to be clearancing it. I ended up paying $175 CAD (~$110 USD) instead of the original list price of $440 CAD plus taxes.
Pros: Pros: This one does it ALL. PC Up & Downloadable, Calorie Counter, HR Sampling. Cons: Cons: Maybe price to some people, but you get a lot for the money.
I just got the Acumen TZ-Max 100 and I love it. I can't list all the features but I'll name some of the ones that I like at the bottom. The main things I love about this HRM is that 1)It's easy to use 2) It has tons of functionality 3) It counts...
Pros: Easy to use (once you read the manual - maybe twice) Cons: none
Each year for my birthday I get an "unnecessary tech gadget" - this year I wanted a HRM. I chose the Polar S210 because it had the features I wanted and my neighbor - who I run with on the weekends - has an S120 and really likes it. I chose the S210...
Pros: good features Cons: unreliable performance, poor customer service
I upgraded from a very basic HR monitor to this one because it calculated calories burned, had a baseline fitness check and a logged successive workouts.
Unfortunately, it proved unreliable. After five months, the watch died, leaving me with nothing but a "memory failed" message. After a song and dance with the store where I purchased it, I sent it back to Polar for warranty repairs. They said it would take 5-7 days for them to mail the watch back to me.
It's now been two weeks and they are just getting around to fixing it.
When it was working the HR monitor worked well. Service from Polar leaves something to be desired...
You have to be a rocket scientist by moldog ,Jun 22 '05
Pros: Chest band is more comfortable than in earlier model. Cons: As above; too complicated.
You have to be a rocket scientist to program this monitor. If you want basic functionality - time in zone, out and recovery rate, buy another model. I still haven't figured it out and Polar "customer service" is non-existent. Phone will ring forever and no one answers. And yes, I did read the manual.
