| Midyear addition of a lower-cost V6 version and a new off-road package highlight 2004 changes to Porsches unibody SUV. Cayenne shares its basic design with Volkswagens Touareg. However, Cayenne is more expensive and has its own engines and styling. The new 3.2-liter V6 version, added in January 04, joins the existing 4.5-liter V8 versions. All engines come with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability via steering-wheel buttons or console lever. The base Cayennes V6 has 247 hp, the S models V8 has 340, and the Turbo models V8 has 450. Cayennes AWD system is designed for severe off-road use and has low-range gearing and a locking center differential. Available midyear is a new Advanced Offroad Technology Package that includes side and floor protection along with a locking rear differential and antiroll bars that can be electronically disconnected for greater suspension articulation.
