Product Details
Personnel: Cyrus Chestnut (piano, Fender Rhodes piano); Cyrus Chestnut; Dezron L. Douglas (bass guitar); Neal Smith, Neal Smith (drums); Mark Gross (soprano saxophone, alto saxophone). Liner Note Author: Cyrus Chestnut. Recording information: The Studio, New York, NY (04/03/2007-04/04/2007). Arranger: Cyrus Chestnut. The elegant, spacious, fluid piano stylings of Cyrus Chestnut seem a strange outlet for the simple, rough-and-tumble country-pop songs of the King, but magic happens on this 2007 release. "Heartbreak Hotel" is revisioned as a dreamy, yet vaguely unsettling ballad that grows dramatically in intensity and volume. "Hound Dog" retains the spunk of the original, with boogie-woogie oomph giving way to heady bop abstraction. Fans of both excellent piano jazz and Elvis Presley will find much to admire and enjoy here.
