For the last several years, Electric Image have been asking graphics professionals what they wanted to see in a new 3D animation platform. It received plenty of passionate feedback. Storytellers really wanted to take advantage of the creative freedom provided by 3D graphics in as many scenes as possible, but slow rendering systems left little time for experimentation. To most, 3D modeling still seemed a difficult and cumbersome task. There was a strong desire for an elegant modeling system to create more sophisticated models in less time. Nobody wanted to give up the rich palette of rendering and animation features they had grown accustomed to in various systems, but in addition they wanted powerful new capabilities.
