On JUNK SCIENCE, Deep Dish's take on dance music focuses on the kind of end-of-the-rave grooves that are the perfect accompaniment to the coming of dawn--it is not too fast, too dense, or too aggressive. It begins with a shimmering guitar line of "Intro - Morning Wood" that suggests Slowdive at its more wistful moments. The cool techno-jazz of "The Future of the Future (Stay Gold)" is a collaboration with Everything But the Girl (that also appears on that group's TEMPERAMENTAL album) featuring the velvet tones of Tracy Thorn on vocals. "Stranded," the second of four tracks (five if you include the dub remix of "Mohammad Is Jesus") sung by Richard Morel, features a smooth groove--piano, guitar, and beat loop--reminiscent of New Order's LOW LIFE period.
