This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The 2002 full-length debut of Brooklyn's Liars was one of the rallying cries of the punk-funk/post-punk revival, where the stylings of Gang of Four, A Certain Ratio, Pop Group, et al, fed the fires of a new generation also including the Rapture, Radio 4, Moving Units, and others. Concerned about pigeonholing, the Liars subsequently did a rapid about-face, jettisoning their rhythm section, adding Julian Gross to the lineup, and dropping the dance-rock sound. In the place of their old format, the band dives headfirst into an experimental approach full of dizzying effects and often-harsh electronics that dance around unconventional song structures. To mix things up even further, THEY WERE WRONG, SO WE DROWNED is in fact a concept album about the myth of the German Witc... |
