| GMCs light duty compact pickup truck gets some much needed power for 2000 in the form of a 4.3 litre Vortec V6 engine that is standard on all 4x4 Sonomas and an available option with all two-wheel drive models. The 4.3L produces 190 horsepower when placed in a 4x4 and 180 hp when its the powerplant for 2WD models. The Sonomas base engine remains a 2.2L four-cylinder that produces 120 ponies. Both engines are teamed with a standard five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic is an option. Other new features for 2000 include the addition of a tachometer and an AM/FM cassette stereo with digital clock as standard equipment. All Extended Cab models are now available in base SL trim level, while the 4x4 Regular Cab with long box has been discontinued.
