The DVD-RV80 is Panasonic's best standard (non-progressive scan) DVD player for the 2000 model year. Its chief claim to fame is a set of component video outputs, which provide the best-quality connection to similarly equipped TVs. On the minus side, the RV80 does not play CD-R discs. A video noise reduction circuit is present to reduce interference inherent to poor-quality DVD transfers. There's also a gamma correction feature that enables you to adjust dark-to-light gradation; it's also supposed to make details in dark scenes visible. Another tweak is called Cinema mode, which combines a brightness control with picture noise canceling to give you an improved picture under certain viewing conditions.
