Acclaim backs up the semi and unloads just about every trick imaginable into the final N64 installment in this hit series. Longtime gamers know that the biggest, feature-richest Paks often come out late in a platform's life cycle, when heroic developers toss every trick they've learned into slam-bang finales. Such is the 256-megabit case with Turok 3, a Pak packed to the anti-aliased rafters with jumbo environments, garrulous voice samples, many multiplayer options and, of course, most excellent weapons. Before diving into the gory depths of Turok 3, let's recap the ups and downs (but mostly ups) of this storied franchise: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter: Based on an obscure comic book, this is the zillion-copy seller that saved Acclaim after a string of 16-bit flops. Lotsa fog, but who cared? Almost all the action took place in a jungle, fer cryin' out loud. Plusses: You get to hunt dinosaurs! Minuses: One-player only. |
