In 1995, a set of five 12-track budget CDs celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Turtles' first hit record, a folk-rock take on Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe," was released. The five discs were also combined into a special-low-price box set, 30 YEARS OF ROCK AND ROLL: HAPPY TOGETHER. Immediately apparent on listening to these discs is that the sequencing makes no sense, either chronologically or thematically. What's also apparent is that this makes not one whit of difference, as the Turtles were remarkably adept at pop and parody. Most of these songs are so acidly funny that it's no wonder... |
