Spring Heel Jack includes: Ashley Wales, John Coxon. Spring Heel Jack's John Coxon and Ashley Wales weren't your typical jungle kids. Coxon was a biochemist, a schoolteacher, and a guitarist/engineer in Spiritualized's live retinue; Wales was a landscaper, a modern classical composer, and a veteran of numerous post-punk ensembles. Perhaps best known for engineering Everything But The Girl's successful WALKING WOUNDED, the duo had in fact been infiltrating the club-centered consciousness of drum-and-bass for years. Working from the sidelines, they experimented with dub, guitars, greased-lightning breakbeats, and the other tonal and textural colorings that inform 68 MILLION SHADES, SHJ's dazzling sophomore album.
