In the film PRACTICAL MAGIC, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock play two sisters who discover that they're both witches, blessed with magical powers. It's only natural then, that Stevie Nicks, who defined the rock-goddess-as-witch-queen image, should contribute two songs to the soundtrack. The spooky, Robert Johnson-meets-Donovan vibe of Nick Drake's "Black Eyed Dog" makes it a natural for inclusion as well. Less obvious selections include quintessential party tunes like Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up" and Harry Nilsson's gloriously goofy "Coconut." However unlikely the aforementioned cuts might seem here, their inclusion helps make PRACTICAL MAGIC an eclectic, well-rounded affair. |
