This delightful EP was released in 1993 in conjunction with a tour of Japan. Far from being a quick souvenir, it's another bracing set of five brand new Scott McCaughey originals and two covers--these guys have always been prolific and they love to flaunt it. "Dear Red" starts with one of the band's favorite tricks: a piano sets up a figure which then gets bulldozed by the guitar-driven onslaught of the whole band. "Rabbit Run" features guests from NRBQ, with Terry Adams on keyboards and Tom Ardolino on drums, and is produced by longtime cohort (and Popllama Records head honcho) Conrad Uno. The band's version of Jonathan Richman's "Roller Coaster By The Sea" was recorded live (the Young Fresh Fellows have always thrived on stage, but remarkably they've never issued a live recording). "Everybody Said Was Wrong" is another full-tilt classic that's all their own but flush with tradition. |
