These tasty EPs from 1997 display the Scottish collective's incisive lyricism and knack for creating memorable, gorgeous pop songs. Save for the slightly satirical "A Century of Elvis," there is nary a clinker among these 12 songs. The title track sports a souped-up, revival-meeting feel, with guest vocalist Monica Queen echoing Jackie De Shannon; Stuart Murdoch sings like a naughty choir boy on the plaintive "You Made Me Forget My Dreams," and, beginning with the tossed-off line, "I'm in a mess/I'm in a dress," the rollicking "Photo Jenny" is an unabashed joy. "Dog On Wheels" cannily appropriates the arrangement of Love's immortal "Alone Again Or" with exotic sounding horns and a seductive air of underlying menace.
