Original Soundtrack/Various Artists: Steve Carell (vocals). Audio Remasterer: Randy Perry . Liner Note Author: Judd Apatow. The soundtrack to the screwball comedy THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN provides the opportunity for guilty pleasures to be piled one atop the other in an unabashed display of cheesy but undeniably effective pop hits from the 1970s and '80s. Where else would you find Dr. Hook's '70s bachelor-pad seduction ballad "Sharing the Night Together" along with the prog-meets-AOR bombast of Asia's "Heat of the Moment?" Of course, there are some unassailable musical giants represented here as well, like James Brown and Smokey Robinson (the latter's unknown gem "Virgin Man" making the cut for obvious reasons), but cuts by the likes of Corey Hart and Survivor (no, not "Eye of the Tiger") ensure that there's novelty/kitsch value aplenty on THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN. |
