This two-disc Fuel 2000 set celebrates the work of two revered blues artists: Mississippi-born singer/guitarists Bukka White and Big Joe Williams. White's disc, entitled REVISITED, presents the deep-voiced performer's landmark 1963 recordings, which were spurred on by then-aspiring guitarist John Fahey and his friend Ed Denson, who produced these spare, soulful tracks, including the sauntering "Atlanta Special" and the vibrant "Aberdeen, Mississippi Blues." The Williams disc, also entitled REVISITED, features many of the brawling bluesman's signature songs, including the timeless "Baby Please Don't Go," the road-weary "Highway 49," and the forlorn "Everybody's Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone," all of which showcase his rootsy drawl and fierce guitar attack. As a budget-priced collection of classic '60s Delta blues, this release can't be beat. (Note: Both discs were previously available individually.) |
