PBS presents CHILDREN WILL LISTEN, a story about the importance of the arts in education. This documentary follows children in the 4th through 8th grades of an inner city Washington D.C. public school as they put on the musical INTO THE WOODS, by Stephen Sondheim. This one-hour film begins when the children first hear about the play, and ends with their first performance for a live audience at the American Film Institute Theater at the Kennedy Center. In between, the children are led by a team of dedicated professionals from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, who teach them how to design a set; learn lines; and even sew costumes. Intended for children and adult audiences alike, this release illustrates the positive role that the arts can play in people's lives. |
