Located at the southern point of the Delmarva Penninsula, the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge supports a wide variety of bird life. Habitat is provided for migratory, threatened, and endangered species such as the black duck, bald eagle and peregrine falcon. Waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, songbirds and gamebirds are all represented, in addition to white-tailed deer, coyote and red foxes. Recreation and educational opportunities include wildlife observation, study and photography; Visitor Center habitat displays, auditorium and observation window; guided walks and auditorium programs; a nature trail; deer hunting; and the Eastern Shore Birding Festival in October. Insect pests peak from March through October. Pets are permitted, but must be kept on a leash. |
