Fort Boonesborough State Park is the site of Boonesborough, established in 1775 by Richard Henderson and Daniel Boone of the Transylvania Company. Boonesborough remained a stopping point and trade center on the Kentucky River for the next fifty-one years. However the population of the town declined and the defensive need for the fort ended after peace was secured with the British and Indians. Boonesborough ceased to exist as a town by 1820 and became a mineral spring resort in the early twentieth century. Today, Fort Boonesborough has been reconstructed as a working fort complete with blockhouses, cabins, and period furnishings.

Directions: Fort Boonesborough is located near Richmond Kentucky.
