Details: Little River NWR is the most important bottomland hardwood area in Oklahoma. It protects many species that are found nowhere else in the state.The Refuge performs an important role in the ecosystem by providing an area of biodiversity in this area which is fast being converted to pine monocultures with little biodiversity. It also provides an important migration corridor for neotropical birds and other wildlife species. Although there are no active management programs at present, the Comprehensive Management Plan currently being drafted will outline future management activities.There are several Indian sites of cultural resource interest that are protected.
