Details: Located in southeast Alaska, lies the Tongass National Forest. At 17 million acres, the Tongass is the largest national forest in the Nation. The size of the forest is matched by its magnificent scenery, vast forests, and extensive bounty of natural resources. It's a land of glaciers, mountains, waterways, and thousands of islands separated by straits and channels. Because of its size, the Tongass National Forest is divided into three areas. The Ketchikan Area includes the southern portion, the Stikine Area manages the central portion, and the Chatham covers the northern portion of the panhandle.
