Titanium the good or the bad?

Apr 07 '00

Well the new craze is Titanium. Titanium is a light weight metal that is very durable espically on tennis racquets.

The first tennis makers to make racquets with Titanium would be HEAD. They came up with about 8-6 months ago the HEAD Ti. Series Others followed including Wilson and recently Prince.

The question all tennis players ask are "Is this really that good?" Well personally as I see it I think it is. these light weight racquets give a good combination between power and control. Unlike Wilsons Hammer which is light and very powerful yet does not have any control I notice almost every Titanium has control which is a major plus in tennis.

I personally use a Head Ti. Fire which I find to be a great racquet with great power and control you could read my recommanadation on it. Agassi and Kuerton are probably the firsts of the pros to use racquects with titanium. Agassi uses the Head Ti. Radical a version of the Head Radical which is now improved with this new metal. Gustavo Kuerton (i think that's how you spell it) Uses my racquet the Head Ti. Fire. More and more players are beginning to switch over to lighter racquets and use them.

Another great plus about these new racquets are they are easy on your hand. No pain from heavy racquets with sting and whiplash usually you can nice smooth strokes even with Wilsons.

Pete Sampras a well recognized player still holds on to a great racquet from Wilson the prostaff. This is a very good racquet with every component for a good player to become great. It has some weight to i with the control facor and you see sampras with 18 gauge strings doing extremely well. IF heavier racquets work for you then stick to it.

When looking for a new racquet i would suggest trying a titanium I am fond of Prince and Head (Head slightly more) becaue they are control racquets. If buying a wilson i would look into prostaff's.

Using Titanium is not always good for a beginner though because when you learn to hit with power instead of control it is very had to advance in the levels. Make sure you know how to hit the ball in before trying power.
