Scalping: The Game Before the GameApr 13 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Getting tickets from scalpers is always an interesting experience. Fortunately, I have never bought counterfeit tickets like some of my other friends. I think a lot of that has to do with luck but here are some things to be careful of when getting tickets to sporting events from a scalper. 1) Try to wait as close to game time as possible - This reduces the risk that you will overpay. One Yankee game I once went to I was able to get 1/2 price tickets by waiting until the first pitch. Of course, this will reduce the chance of getting a ticket so use this only at a game that is not sold out. 2) Always look at ticket before buying - The guy might run with the money before you get ticket. This happened to one of my friends about four years ago. 3) Try friends first - A scalper should only be a last resort when all other alternatives have been used. 4) Barter - You can always talk the scalper down. Never pay the first price that he is asking for. This might seem obvious but some people are so desperate to go to the game that they will pay any price. 5) Be careful - If you feel uncomfortable when talking to the scalper in any way, walk away. Rather be safe than sorry. |
