| chris4leal's Full Review: Nursing Profession |
I have been an lvn since 1993,first starting in a local nursing home then moving on to home health. In my experience the pay was reasonable and work was steady. Once home health was no longer viable i moved on to the local hospital nearby, But what i realized is that i would have to work flex or contract just to make the same pay as before. This has its pro's and con's. First off as a pro- you can pick what days you will be avialable and what shifts you are willing to work. This works best when you have small children and you what to spend time with your family. Another pro is the money it can be great if you find the right employer or facility willing to pay you what you want. Now the con's- you get no benefits, sick leave, payed vacation, your first off when censes is low,
your first pulled to another floor to fill gaps, your looked down upon by co-workers because they know your making more money and your usually given
the hardest cases on the floor. Also your expected to be available at a moments notice if the cenus picks back up again. After working this way for the last two years I've come to realize that the money really isn't worth all the con's that come along with contract/flex nursing, But now i'm stuck because i can not afford to take an absolutely drastic cut in pay to work full time in any facility. I don't know what administration is thinking. How can anybody survive on $8.00/hr for a lvn. I know that i'm worth more than that. It was a hard ship for me to earn my lvn license
first i had to take all the prereq then 1 full year full time in the nursing program. And i could not work as i did this. I wish administration would open there eyes but we all know what the bottom line is. Know matter what the hospital's theme logo is "we strive to provide the best care". Bla,Bla,Bla. They forget to include "the best care only after we've met our quota, i'v bought my wife/husband a new lexus, i've sent my child to the best colleges and i can retire at the age of 50. Well i think i need to stop because I'm getting into a hole other opinion.
