Never use Starving Students

I decided to use a moving company for my last move and I made the mistake of choosing Starving Students movers... wow, what a mistake that was.
When I called and arranged the move for Friday, December 4, 1998 – I was told that the window of time when the movers would come would be between 1pm and 5pm. I told the woman that I was speaking to on the phone that I would be in classes between 9am – 11am and she instructed me that the movers would call sometime between 11am – 1pm to confirm with me before they showed up at my house.
On Friday, December 4th I arrived home from school at 11:30am planning to finish up my packing before the movers arrived. When I checked my voice mail I had a message from Kenny at Starving Students Moving Company confirming my move. I called the number back and was told that the movers had already left for my house and I could not contact them. I was extremely distressed at this news since I wasn’t planning to be ready for the movers until 1pm at the earliest.
I rushed around finishing things up and expecting the movers to show up at any time. At approximately 12:20pm I received a phone call from Kenny. He was at a Texaco in Ballard and could not find the house. I was confused as I would assume that the movers would have a detailed map leading them to their destination. I was unfamiliar with the location that they were at and so I gave them directions from Aurora Avenue North.
The movers did not show up at my house until approximately 1:30pm. The movers proceeded to pack up the truck with my belongings. When the time came to sign the bill and the amount was $361.46 I was extremely confused as to why it was so high.
When I had a chance to look over the itemized charges I was appalled at what I had been charged for. The receipt listed that I was charged for “2 Men & Van” from “11:30am to 3:45pm.” I have no problem paying for the time the movers were actually moving my belongings, but it is ridiculous that I would have to pay for the two hours that the movers were lost. It is not my fault that they could not find the house. For all I know those movers could have been doing another paying job during the two hours they were lost.
First of all, the movers were not even supposed to be coming until 1pm at the earliest. They could have easily called me and confirmed sometime before 1pm and I could have given them detailed directions. Second of all, it is the responsibility of Starving Students to make sure that the movers have all the necessary information to get to their destination. I should not have to pay for any incompetence on the part of the movers or the company.
Here's the clincher.. as I was unpacking I discovered that they had broken the glass on a huge piece of art I had.
Save yourself the hassle and NEVER use Starving Students Movers!
