I started participating with Priceline.com in February 2000. I was so enthusiastic about this program. I recommended this service to everyone, and praised the "half-price" earning program to the high heavens.
I was so wrong. I hope that this post will help someone “Not” make the same mistake I did. I no longer participate in the "Half Price Coin" option, but instead select the price "above" the half price mark. I do get most of my prices accepted, and no longer have to worry about future subscription nightmares. That is until they figure out a way to make you earn "any" lower prices. We'll cross that bridge when we get there!
In March, I started receiving magazines that I agreed to accept on a "trial" basis. I had received 2 copies of some of the magazines, and called Priceline's toll free number(1-800 741-3163,)located on the back of your card. I was shortly greeted by a pleasant Customer
Service Representative who informed me that once the order is placed for any product to earn the half price coins, they (Priceline), no longer have access to the order. I now had to contact the individual companies to cancel services ordered. She couldn't even tell me which
companies they were!!! I asked for the company that handled the magazine subscriptions, and she acted like I had just surprised her, and She stated, "Oh yeah, I can get that for you." I was beginning to wonder if this was a "stall" tactic for those wishing to cancel anything they signed up for through this company. She cheerfully gave me the Magazine Subscription Center (1-800-321-6247).
This Subscription Center's phone system is an automated one. I pressed the appropriated keys, and was brought to the section to cancel my orders. After I went through ending six of the subscriptions, the automated voice stated that I needed assistance, and was brought to a “live”person. This operator confirmed my information and told me that I was signed up for 47 subscriptions. What??? I looking to cancel all of them. I thought there was 20 something. How in the world could I have signed up for that many? I was advised that this "removal" would have to be done manually because so many Priceline customers were calling to cancel, that they were having a set of Supervisors doing the deletions. I called again today April 12th, and was advised by the Representative that "She" was unable to verify that all 47 magazines where cancelled. She was very distressed when I asked her to check them randomly by date ordered. She said it takes to much time to verify them all, and that she wasn’t “allowed” to review that many. What??? The tone she was
using was really starting to irritate me. She advised me that her Supervisor was assisting her reference my account. I was supposed to feel guilty about her doing her job I guess. After about 12 random checks, she inquired whether I wanted her to continue. She was
acting like I was “killing” her, so I said not to continue, and I would just contact my credit card company to put a hold on my account so no request for payments could be accepted. She replied,"You do that, and have a nice day."
I also noticed that a book club, provided by Grolier Enterprises, was billing me in $25.00 increments, so I obtained that phone number (1-800-955-9877) from my credit card company. I didn’t see any sense trying to “beat” the number out of the Priceline people. I just didn’t want to go through that again. I called them and they pleasantly told me that I was also signed up for the “CD” club for children, via Priceline. This person also advised me they had a lot of trouble with Priceline sending in order for both clubs, and the Customers were calling asking for one type of account, and there were two assigned. She stated that I
needed to beware of Priceline. She said there were many “hidden factors” in subscriptions obtained through Priceline. You may be signing up for one aspect of a program, and it was being submitted to them for both memberships. I had no trouble with this company as far as cancelling my account. Their Customer Service was wonderful, and didn’t give me any
argument at all.
I know I have to do more research on items I "may" have agreed to take. I just hope I didn't give away my first born child and didn't know it.
Please be careful on what you choose to "accept" through Priceline.com. You may also have the same experiences on "realizing" what you have accepted, a wolf in sheep's clothing.
