I had a great experience ordering flowers for a relative in the hospital in a far-away city using www.flower.com. I had no previous experience with this company and went on "blind trust"-which turned out to be pleasantly rewarded.
The Site:
The layout of this site was very clean and attractive. It was easy to navigate and had easy-to-see photographs of all the choices which were very helpful. There was a choice bar down the left side of each page which covered individual areas within the site:
Catalog: 26 choices of cut flowers ranging in price from $34.95 to 79.95. There was also one floral wreath and an arrangement which included balloons (this is the one I chose for my relative).
Build Your Own Bouquet: I didn't get to check out this option as I was having trouble with my ShockWave plug-in and you need Shockwave to view this area. You can download ShockWave from the Macromedia web site so if you REALLY want to "build your own bouquet"--it shouldn't be an issue!
Dried Flowers: 4 choices ranging from $29.99 to $37.99. If you're looking for a "drop dead impressive" option for the right person, there was a dozen long-stemmed dried roses for $37.99 that knocked my socks off! This wasn't the right choice for my (very) mature, male relative though!
Home Grown: 4 choices of cut flowers shipped direct from the grower. Each was $39.95. It was hard to see why this was anything special-nothing better than the other sections' choices and the flowers that my relative got were so fresh that "home grown" couldn't have much more to offer!
Registry: This was a convenience section that could prove very valuable if you have trouble remembering to "send that special gift" -until after the occasion has past! It allows you to enter a list of occasions with notes and dates and www.flower.com will send you a reminder in advance so you can't fail to be that "thoughtful person" that everyone wants to be but for which nobody has the time!
Message Scentiments: This section provides "sample text" that you can use to send that "thoughtful message" that everyone wants to send-but have only the time to order the flowers at weird hours…which is why they use the internet in the first place! This section can be very useful!
Occasions: This is a selection of 5 cut flower arrangements varying in price from $29.95 to $99.95. The arrangements have "special occasion" themes. The most interesting one was for "Game Days" for pro football games-but they were expensive and I don't really know any pro sports enthusiasts who want flowers to mark that big game day?!?!
Super Stems: No-these are not roses! They are 2 choices for long-stem lily arrangements! Go Figure?!?! Anyway they cost $39.99 ad $49.99 so if you are really into lilies-I guess this makes sense. Not my style.
As I said, I ordered a cut flower arrangement with balloons to be delivered to an urban hospital the following day (the day after Valentine's Day-I actually expected the site to be "burnt out"). The arrangement arrived at my relative's bedside on time and (reportedly) fresh as a daisy-although it did not include daisies! It did include fresia (as well as other flowers) and they were fresh and very fragrant.
Using www.flower.com was a very satisfying experience. When placing the order I was given a confirmation message to record (for tracking) and virtually immediately I received an email with an order confirmation number. I selected this site because I could find no selections to my satisfaction at 2 other web flower sites. I will use it again for many additional reasons. I highly recommend this site. Oh yes, and they have a message that reads "Welcome-100% Satisfaction Guaranteed"-that would describe me!
