Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom

Dec 01 '00

Have you ever seen it snow in Orlando Florida? If you have, chances are, that it may have been, at Walt Disney World, during the Special Holiday Party.

Every year, In early December, Disney holds the annual Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party celebration. The Parties take place over several weekends , after the Magic Kingdom has closed. The Party last from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM!

You must purchase a seprate ticket to attend each party. The advance purchase price for the 2000 Parties are $31.00 for Adults and $21.00 for Kids ages 3-9. Annual pass holders are given small discounts. If tickets are still available on the night of the party, the prices increase to $36.00 per Adult, and $26.00 per child.

By attending the Special Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, You will get the first look at the Christmas Parade, (which does not premier in the Park during day hours until December 18) You get to see snow on Main Street, ( ok, it is soap, but it looks like snow)And you are treated to the first viewing of 3 Holiday shows .

You may wonder if it is worth spending the extra money for the ticket. I can tell that it is! You get several perks by attending. You get a free Family portrait. You get a free collectable button, with the year on it, You get free cocoa and cookies.

It is a hard ticket event, so there are only are pre determined number of tickets that will be sold. They do sell out, especially on the weekend dates. But, that does keep the size of the crowds down.Tickets for this year are still available, you can call to order them at 1 407 824 4321. You can also purchase them from your area Disney Stores.Ticket Master outlets also sell the tickets, but you will have to pay a surcharge.

As you enter the MAGIC KINGDOM, you see the giant lighted pine tree, it is almost as tall as the castle. This is a great start to get you into the Christmas mood.If you look over near TOWN SQUARE, Santa Goofy is posing for pictures.

This is one of your only chance to see the Characters in fancy costumes. In past years we have gotten photos of Dickens style Mickey and Minnie, Beauty and the Beast in Formal Christmas Wear, Sleeping Beauty in Blue Velvet, and Cinderella wearing her Blue Sequin dress, inside of her Pumpkin Coach! We have had our Christmas Card photo taken with the Characters for the past 5 years.

As you stroll down Main Street, to piped in Holiday tunes, You run into Donald Duck's Christmas Tree Lot. You can take a picture with him and Daisy, all dressed in their Winter Clothes.Be sure to get the family to pose in the Red Sleighs, it make a great Christmas card picture.

At the castle, a Show staring the Characters and the Kids of the Kingdom is performed. The show has changed from year to year., This year, it will be a New show called CELEBRATE THE SEASON.

In Tomorrowland, at the Galaxy Palace Theater, a Show starring the Characters and The Disney Dancers called Twas the Night Before Christmas is performed. It is a Disney Spin on the Traditional classic. This show has the Country Bears dancing in Pink TUTUS! It is great for the whole family.

At the Diamond Horse Shoe, in Frontierland the Show, Miss Minnie's Country Christmas is Performed. It has Live Music. It is cute, but if you miss it, is no big deal.

The Disney Characters get into the Christmas Spirit too! Chip and Dale are dressed in Ski Gear, Mickey and Minnie Mouse dress in Charles Dickens, like attire, The Princess wear the fancy Velvet Winter Dresses, and The Winnie the Pooh Gang, puts on Hats and scarves!

Along with all of the Holiday activity, all of your favorite rides are open. Some of the fast food, and full service restaurants are open, but not all of them.

The Dates for the 2000 Parties are November 30, December 1, 4, 7, 8, 11, 14 and 15. How ever some of these dates are all ready sold out. The nights of December 1,8, and 15, have all ready reached capacity crowds.

If you are not from Florida, you want to be prepared for any kind of Weather! It may hot enough to wear shorts, a T-Shirt and Sandals, even after dark. Last year,we went in jeans and a Sweatshirt. There have been several years that I have been comfortable in short sleeves and and a pair of shorts.

As much as I love this event, I would not recommend it to first time visitors to the Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom is an event by itself, the Christmas Party will distract you from the rest of the park, I recommend this event for Disney Veterans.

Suggestions: If you are bringing kids, make sure to do the kiddie stuff first, because they may fall asleep, because 1:00 AM is kind of late.
Arrive at the parade and shows early to get a good seat. The Parade, is a big reason why people come.

This is an UPDATED Epinion, that was originally submitted in May 2000. Some of the dates and prices, and other information have changed
