My Igloo Travel Agency
Jan 09 '01
Hi, I am an Eskimo from Alaska (See Disclaimer at the end). I am Nugganuggut -- which means "Famous Moose Nugget." I am famous because I married to the daughter of a Seminole Chieftain (as in Florida State
Seminoles). Her papoose and mamoose live in St. Pete, Florida;
and if we want to go visit them, it cost many wampum and takee
many moons to get there. Last fall season, my own papoose and
mamoose moved to Atlanta; it cost almost as much wampum to
go and visit them. I need find best price.
So I buy "I Be EM" computer, and stuck it in my igloo, just like the
Yahoo TV ads. (I don't have the jacuzzi yet, but I'm working on
it.) Then I get BIG roll of phone rope, put it in my dogsled, and
run it to nearest town -- maybe 500 miles give or take about
250. When I hook it up, I find new kind of Fish Net. It called
"INTERNET". In it, I catch many things: ebay eel, yahoo trout,
epinions fish. One day I catch prize fish. Show off to all
neighbors. It called: "Travelocity.com"........
Travelocity.com is the best online travel service that I have
found. The only one that I liked nearly as much was
previewtravel.com, and they recently merged into
travelocity.com, making the site even better. Travelocity has
many quality features including car rental information, hotel and
resort options, ski resort studies, and many more. But for the
purpose of this review, I will stay with the featured topic:
"Finding Cheap Airfares."
In Travelocity, there are two features that will find "the best
roundtrip fares." The first is called Fare Finder, the second
Farewatcher. I personally like the second choice best, but I'll
describe both.
The fare finder is clearly visible on the travelocity home page,
and you should have no trouble using it. You only have four or six
choices to make that will run the search for you:
-Any date vs. Specific date;
-Leaving from;
-Going to;
-No. of Adults;
-and departure and return dates (if you've chosen specific dates.)
Click "Go" and Presto! you have the lowest fares available.
If you think it couldn't get any easier, you're wrong. Farewatcher
is even easier because it will notify you by email when the price
of a certain airfare between you're choice of five different
destinations, goes up or down by $25 or more. Also, you can log
into the home page (of Travelocity) and the lowest published
fares for the five different destinations you have chosen will be
posted right beside the fare finder.
Lost? Here's a real life example -- my own Farewatcher settings.
When I first found Farewatcher, they asked me to choose five
different connections (i.e. departure/destination cities). Here is
what I chose:
1. Anchorage to Atlanta (my parents live there)
2. Anchorage to London Heathrow (hopefully I can go there someday)
3. Anchorage to Orlando
4. Anchorage to Seattle/Tacoma
5. Anchorage to Tampa/St.Petersburg (Seminole Chieftain live here)
Whenever an airfare between any of these cities goes up or down
by $25 or more, I get an email in my box notifying me which fare
has changed and by how much, and I get a hyperlink directly to
the fare at travelocity.com. Or, if it hasn't changed in a while and
I want to check on a fare anyway, I will click on Travelocity in
my bookmarks, and beside each connection I will see the best
posted fare.
Best of all: this is all free of charge.
In conclusion, there are many online travel services on the Internet, but of all that I've seen, travelocity is the easiest to use and most effective in finding the lowest fares possible. Whenever I decide to travel the thousands of miles to visit my family or visit a warm beach, I will continue to use travelocity.com. I certainly won't buy tickets at full price when I can wait a month or two and Presto! A low airfare will appear in my mailbox.
Postscript.
Actually, I am a native of Alaska by birth, but I am not an Eskimo. My wife is the sweetest Puerto Rican you'll ever meet.
Disclaimer:
Please note that this review is meant to show the lighter side of Alaskan living. It is in no way meant to be insulting or derogatory toward Native Americans. In fact, I live among these people and have friends that are Natives, and I know for a fact how fun-loving they are.
