Red Eye Flights VS. Changing Planes!

I have a 9 year old and a 5 year old. I'd rather have to have a layover and change planes then do a straight flight...red eye. For anyone who doesn't know what a red eye flight is, it's a flight that's in the middle of the night.

A couple years ago, when my kids were 3 and 7, I flew from Wis. to Fl., and had a layover in Mi. It was a couple of hours, but there are plunty of stores in the airport to look at, and my youngest just loves watching the planes land and take off.

When we took the red eye flight, from WIS. to Las Vegas, it was a nightmare. They slept all the way to the airport, then had to wake them to get into the airport, and on the plane. Then they went back to sleep on the plane. Then had to wake them to get off the plane, then my kids were wired because of all the "cool" lights on the stripe.

For me it was just too hard cause I had to get them back to bed, after they have been awake for awhile, and in a strange place at that. It was at grandma's house, but new all the same.
