My Travel Top Ten List
Jul 31 '00
In this Millenium year, with all of its "Best Lists" or "Most Important" events, I got to thinking about my personal list for the top ten travel experiences I have encountered so far. Some are obviously better or more important to me than others, but each was special in its own way.
1. Most exciting travel moment: The first time I saw Paris!
2. Most enjoyable museum: Two way tie between the Academy in
Florence and the Rodin Museum in Paris.
3.Most Romantic meal: Dining under the stars on Lake
Como at the outdoor terrace restaurant at the Villa
Serbelloni. The view looking out at the twinkling lights of the
towns in the Alps across the Lake, reflecting in the water,
was something I will never forget.
4.Most interesting travel day: The tour we took of the Flanders
Fields World War I sites, in Belgium, given by Quasimodo Tours,
was the single most interesting and moving day I have ever had
while travelling.
5.Best hotel bathroom: Hotel Intercontinental in Amsterdam
6.Best plane flight: Getting a surprise "bump" upgrade to
Business Class on American Airlines on our twenty-fifth wedding
anniversary, which was also our first trip to France.
7.Best shopping: Shopping for leather goods in Florence.
8.Most wonderful meal: Dinner at Gerard Boyer's restaurant at
Chateau Crayere in Reims, France.
9. Most romantic moment: Another two way tie:
Walking along the Quay, with the Eiffel Tower off in the
distance, and taking a gondola ride in Venice.
10.Most relaxing travel experience: A massage at the ocean's
edge at Grand Lido, Negril, Jamaica.
I guess I have been very lucky to not only have had these wonderful experiences but to share them with the most terrific and romantic man in the world, my husband of thirty-one years.
