Where's the PRICE??

I have to say I'm not at all impressed with Priceline.com! Priceline.com(for travel) is a site where you are supposed to sign up to name your desired airline reservation, name your price, and you are supposed to get an email answer whether your request was approved or denied within one hour.
Priceline.com is advertised as the best/cheapest place to purchase airline tickets. The price you request does not include taxes nor airline fees. You submit your credit card number, if your request is accepted, you are immediately charged the price you quoted. Non-refundable.
Well, this is what's going on. My in laws are trying to come and see their grandchildren for my oldest sons birthday, on April 10th. My mother in law put in numerous requests, each time you place a request and it gets rejected, you have to not only change your named price, but you have to change dates, or airport selection. My mother in law started out at $150 a ticket(couldn't hurt to try:) Round trip tickets from Salt Lake City to Anchorage, Alaska are running $416 per ticket through travel agents, travel websites, etc. My mother in law gave up after her 5th request was rejected, when her price request was up to $290 per ticket.
So, here's where I come in. Yesterday I placed a request, starting at $290, again, keep in mind that does not count the taxes or airport fees that are typically included in the tickets you buy from travel agents, or other places(the $400 tickets). I placed my request at 2p.m. Again, you are supposed to get an 'accepted' or 'rejected' email within ONE HOUR! At 9p.m, I still could not access my Priceline account via the website, and I had been calling for information since 4p.m, and had been told every time that the site was down, it would be back up in one hour, please call back. I'm happy to say that at least they provide a 1-800 number!!
This morning, I had my 'rejected' email response. So, 8a.m, I resubmitted, this time for $300(this will put my tickets around $350 per with taxes, etc if accepted). Why am I bothering? Who the heck knows. No response yet, and I just tried calling, and guess what? Their website is 'down', please try back in one hour...
