My husband and I flew to Tampa, Florida by using Priceline to purchase the tickets, which were half the price we had previously paid. The feedback from Priceline was almost immediate. My price was accepted. I chose electronic tickets and picked up our boarding passes at the airport. It was easy.
In order to get the best price one needs to be flexible--include a Saturday, try to buy your ticket two weeks in advance, agree to one or two stops, travel during off-peak times (early morning or late at night), accept corporate help (Time magazine added $20.00 to my price when I agreed to a free three month subscription. I simply cancelled the subscription after the three months and paid nothing).
My Florida experience with Priceline was so good I used Priceline again to fly to Kansas City, Missouri. I was late for the departure and the airport personnel went out of their way to connect me to another flight an hour later. Just enough time to have breakfast with my husband. I had one stop of less than an hour--enough time to grab a snack and a drink. I had pleasant company on the flight and the flight attendants were courteous and friendly. Even with my mistake, I paid about fifty percent less than any other method.
