Buy rain gear at home for summertime showers

Mar 17 '00

If your dream vacation is during the summer months to WDW, know that it will shower for a short time nearly every day. Buying rain gear before you leave home from your favorite discount store will not only save you some money, but time as well. There will be vendors around the different theme parks selling their Disney ponchos at a price nearly twice as much as what you can get them for at home. Yes, the rain gear is cute (they have different Disney characters on them) but they are not as sturdy as those that we brought from home. There is also a line to wait in to purchase them.

If you are at a Theme Park when it showers, or even pours for that matter, don't immediately return to your resort "home". Take advantage of the opportunity and put on your rain gear and catch a place in line to a popular attraction. NOTE: If it is just a shower this is safe enough to do, but in the event that it is a storm there will be lightening and a place at the front of the line to ride Space Mountain just isn't worth your life.

It was my experience that after the rain ended for that day, the use of the rain gear was not needed again for that day, so we would put the rain gear in a locker if it was near enough to us. Otherwise, we usually carried an extra backpack to hold them and a dry towel that we kept in a small trash bag. The dry towel helped us to dry off.

A time saving tip that we used was that we all wore our swimsuits under our clothing when we went to the parks. The boys had two suits and would wear their suits instead of shorts. This allowed us to hop in the resort pool as soon as we returned from the parks. We already had a towel, but most resorts on property also have pool towels. Just slip off you outer clothes and into the wonderful and inviting pool. It took everyone an extra thirty min. or more to return to our rooms and change, not to mention the time that it took me to get back up and get going again. Note: we took advantage of having our purchases taken to our rooms so we wouldn't have to worry about them at the pool.

One other suggest that I would like to add is to make certain that you pack plenty of Tylenol for your aching back, legs, and hips. (yes, even my hips were sore from so much walking.)Moleskin is also useful to put on your feet BEFORE you get a blister. Always remember to wear a good pair of comfortable shoes. (NOTE: NEVER wear a new pair that has not been broken in.)
