You'll Only Be Gone 2 Weeks

Why is it that almost everyone seems to pack twice the amount of clothes they'll be needing for a vacation. I've heard about people packing 20 pairs of socks for 14 days. I guess they don't want to do laundry while on vacation. I seen cars packed to the top of the windows and the roof rack piled almost as high.

Pack Only What You Need
With a little advance planning you can determine what you need to pack for a 2 week vacation. We are starting to plan for our vacation in October and I hope I can take my own advice. If you are planning to go to dinner a couple of times you can wear the same dress twice. I imagine that you'll be going to different places each night and there's little chance that the people will be at the same place both nights and if they were I'll guarantee they'll never remember what was worn the first night. This also goes for sports jackets and ties. You don't need more than one. Also one pair of dress shoes are all that's needed.

If you have an vacation plan you'll know what you need to pack depending on where you'll be going. If something unplanned comes up adapt. Don't pack a lot of cloths "Just in Case", you'll never need to unpack them.

Kids are a little different to pack for. They need some extra things to help make the vacation easier on them. You'll want to pack their favorite pillow for your nights away from home. Then there are all those stuffed animals for comfort. It's very difficult for a child to pick just one so try to let them bring several.

Plan Your Packing
When packing your suitcase, it will help to pack the last things you'll need first. This way the things you'll be needing right away will be on top and easier to get to. If you'll be stopping overnight, on you way to your final destination, pack all of your family's overnight clothes in one suitcase. This way you won't have to unpack your entire car just for one night. This is probably one of the most important tips I know of.

If you don't take time to plan your packing your trip will probably start on a low note. At the last minute you'll be pressured and nervous about getting everything in. When actually packing the car, a friend of ours makes sure that everything is on his garage floor before the first item goes in the car. This way he can see each item and plan the best way to get everything in the space available. He probably does the best job of planned packing I've ever seen. Give it a try and you'll find that this chore of packing can become easier and much less frustrating.

Best Advice
Plan your packing, Plan what you'll need, Plan where you'll put it all. PLAN PLAN PLAN!!!!! It will make your vacation much more pleasant.
