Instant Elite Status? Just Ask!

Yes, it is possible to receive *instant* elite status on airlines -- without having flown them before!
If you have elite status on at least one airline, you can call the elite customer service desks of other airlines to request instant status on their airlines. How I've approached it goes as follows:
1) Call the "elite" customer service desks, not the general customer service numbers.
2) Mention your current status on your primary airline.
3) Describe some dissatisfaction with your current primary airline, then mention that your only reason for not switching primary carriers is losing "elite" status.
4) Ask if they can grant instant status.
I've done this with a number of airlines and have never been turned down (though they may not give you the same level -- some refuse to grant the highest level instantly).
This has also been successful in getting elite status with hotels ... and well worth it, with the mileage/stay bonuses that you'll receive. Happy Travels!
