United We Stand, Devided We Fall
Jul 03 '00
First, I would like to say that I love Europe and wish Europe to prosper in all ways. I wish them health and wealth. But, I do not see that Unification could make this occur. When United States united there was much reason to do so. We were heading into disaster. There were really the good, the bad and the ugly. In an effort to make all people free we had to have a free country. That was good and it was necessary.
In a democratic society being free and being united in very important. But, for the most part, in Europe, we are not dealing with a democratic society. I feel, most people would agree that even though some countries may be insinuating a democratic status, they are still no more than socialist. This is difficult to say because I love Germany and France so much, but to unify them would not be smart until the countries themselves are unified internally.
In America, we still have problems. But, the source is not the Unification and not democracy. The source is rewarding the non-productive and punishing the productive. The source is not figuring out how to get rid of illiteracy, racism, religious disharmony, criminality, and drugs.
To make a United Europe would be like dumping out all your board games (Monopoly, Risk, Chess, Uno, Scrabble, Yatzi, and Trivia) onto the floor and trying to make one game out of them. Each country has its own game, its own goals, its own theories of management. To put all those things together would cause a great uncertainty and unfortunately, Europe is not ready for any more uncertainty.
