Free Air Miles: a new frequent flyer program
Jun 06 '00
Free air miles sound almost too good to be true, but it is true. In today’s travel world, there are more frequent flyer mileage programs than a person can shake a stick at. Very few of these programs allow a user to earn miles for nothing more than spending a little time on the internet.
Freeairmiles.com is a new program that started in December of 1999 that gives the user of the program the opportunity to earn air miles. As a new program, it is still developing, and I think the users of it will be very pleased with the overall outcome.
The basic facts:
How much does it cost to join? There are no membership costs.
What do I have to buy to earn my miles? Nothing
How many miles do I get? That’s up to you. At present you can earn a maximum of 100 air miles per day. In the near future, that number will increase 500 miles per day.
How do I earn my miles? Each day, log onto the web site and click on the various banner advertisements. Next to each banner is a number indicating the number of miles you’ll receive for viewing the advertisement. In the near future, a search engine will be added to the web site. Users will have the opportunity to earn 500 miles per day using the search engine.
I suppose my air miles are limited to a few airlines? No. Freeairmiles.com is partnering with 1travel.com for mileage redemption. The user will be able to input their travel itinerary preferences and 1travel will respond with choices and the cost in air miles.
Can I redeem my air miles for anything else? Yes. At present, air miles can be redeemed for cash or retail chain gift certificates.
How will using these free air miles impact my frequent flyer account? The miles flown using the free air miles program will build the air miles in a frequent flyer program.
The above are the basic facts I found to be very interesting. As I indicated the site is still developing into a much larger service. Freeairmiles.com expects to offer vacation packages, hotel and rental car opportunities using the air miles earned on the site.
What I really appreciate about the site and its air miles program, is that they have eliminated all blackout dates, and non-transferable tickets. The travel agency 1travel will not issue flight certificates, instead they issue the actual ticket
If the site follows the current development plan, a user of the program can feasibly earn a free round trip flight (my comparison - based on 25,000 frequent flyer air mile requirement as used on some other programs) every seven weeks.
My observations from using Freeairmiles.com:
The web site responded to my inquiry for more information within two hours. I like prompt service.
The web site is easy to navigate, and free air miles build quickly. I’ve found it only takes 10 to 20 minutes to gain the current 100 air miles.
I like the referral program they have. For each person you send a referral to, and who sign up, you gain 20 air miles. I’d like the referral bonus to be more, but I’m not complaining either.
Recommendation: I’ve recommended this site to many of my friends. I’m very excited about the potential it holds.
