Camping is for this family!!

My husband, kids and I have been camping for years. Both my husband and I grew up in families that loved to go camping.

A couple of years ago we owned a pop-up camper. We bought it used and did some fixing up. We loved it because we could leave a lot of things packed year round. With the birth of our last child we felt it would be a while before we could get back into camping again so we sold it. A year later we were already back into camping so we bought a three cabin tent.

Tent camping works great for us. We have had to make a few adjustments so that it isn't so much work. Such as buying blow-up mattresses. These are a life saver. No more sleeping on the ground and feeling damp in the morning.

We also purchased a couple of plastic tote boxes to store items in such as sheets and towels, and another for tin foil, matches, charcoal, cooking utensils, etc. This saves so much time when we are planning a trip. Both boxes have a label on the lid that tell me whats in each and after each camping trip we are sure to restock for the next trip.

Also something we learned from other tent campers was that no matter how well you weather proof your tent, its wise to purchase a tarp big enough to cover the top of the tent just in case that rain shower comes and you spring a leak.

We found a good used screen tent at a yard sale that we hook directly to the front of our tent that serves as a dinning area or a place to stay dry outside the confines of the tent during a rain shower or at night when the bugs are at their worst.

There is a lot to think about before setting off on your first camping trip, so its wise to make a plan and write everything down, from your menu and what it will take to prepare your meals, to clothes appropriate for any inclement weather and of course everything in between. Its a good idea to visit your local sports shop that carries camping equipment and ask what you will need. You don't need to spend a fortune to have a great time, but you need to be prepared.
